Who wouldn't want WINE in the laundry room???

last modified: 12 years ago
In this renovation, the homeowners had a wish list:
1) improved storage
2) new appliances
3) incorporate a really big wine fridge

Well, we granted all three wishes!
And then we added a fun, colourful backsplash to shake things up a little.

Here is a close-up of the backsplash, and one of the storage wall
And guess what? The passage doors are the SAME doors that were there originally! We added mouldings to them, painted them in a dark taupe, and voila, a whole new door!

This is awesome! I particularly like your backsplash. The linen closets are a great idea. In my mind, you can't have too much linen storage. I love this project!

Thank you everyone, for the wonderful feedback!
And 10elise, I appreciate your response!
While this may not be a stone cave, the tall cellier has two separate climate controls, meant to replicate ideal conditions for wine storage, is sitting on a tiled floor (set into a concrete subfloor) so vibration is truly minimal, and was the ideal option for housing wine for this client.
Purists may disagree, but practically speaking, this truly was the best place for this appliance!
Plus, the wine likely won't be in there long enough to worry about it! (Teehee!)

Did you make a false wall for the plumbing behind the w/d? How was that done?

    Hi fiddledeedee,
Great question! Yes, we had the contractor do all sorts of clever tricks to make the plumbing and dryer venting work in this space.
The wall was built out just enough to pass the plumbing to the left of the washer, with access to the shutoff valves for the hot and cold water being set INSIDE that open area (in the cabinet under the drying rack), making it easy enough to access when they go on vacation, and not as unsightly as when it is above the appliances. The washer drain is also set into the wall just below the counter, directly behind the washing machine.
We also took advantage of a side vent option on the dryer, and ran the duct for the dryer vent into the wall to the right of the dryer, out to the exterior of the house.

Beautiful! I love the counter over the appliances, but may I ask how you access the back if maintenance is needed? Are the rear connections long to allow for pulling out the appliance, or is counter removable?

    Hi Linda,
As I mentioned a couple of posts up, the water access is under the cabinet to the left of the washer. The machines are fully accessible, and can be pulled out and repaired down the road. Everything "important" was made accessible! And that counter is definitely not removable!
