Not a big fan but maybe in a burgundy and gold/beige vertical stripe in this case.

I like them. I don't think they are out of style at all. All it would take is one "designer" on one TV show on HGTV showing a balloon valance like the one in the picture in a "modern" fabric in a "transitional" room and the valance would be considered "eclectic" and not "out of style." Shortly thereafter, you'd see that "look" appearing in all sorts of pictures on this very website, and people like you and me would be clammoring for the look.

Not a fan, never did for myself, but some customers like them and I say, yes, do whatever you like, it's your house not my or a model house.

They would not be my favorite treatment, but in the right space, in the right fabric, they could be pretty. Maybe it's just me, but I am growing bored with interiors which look like they could be staged as hospital surgery rooms with only a few appropriate medical instruments laying around.

I like them very much because they are so practical. When you need to dress a window, they don't eat space laterally like when the curtains are open, and they shadow from the sun very effectively, without having to cover up the whole view. I don't see why they would collect more dust than hanging curtains. I am talking about the kind that slides up and down.

I disliked them in the 1980's and dislike them even more now.

Although they're very 80's/90's, they hide blinds that are pulled up (as do other valances). But I never loved blinds. The long panels will always be my favorite. Functional and pretty.

I don't think I've ever seen a window with a balloon valence that I didn't think would be better off if the valence was removed. They cover up a good third of the window permanently darkening your room.

I'm out voted but I still like those. I had them about 12 years ago and don't have them anymore because I just frequently change things because I like so much. I don't care if something is "out of style" or not if I like it and I still like them.

When we bought our 1925 rustic home two years ago, it had yellow taffeta and red taffeta (living room and dining room, respectively) balloon valences. Combined with the the "mac and cheese powder" orange walls and the cheetah staircase runner, we had our work cut out for us. Happy to say they're all gone now :)

They make me think of bloomers, so to me it looks look like an undergarment hanging from the window.

These gathered on a rod valances are not "true" balloon valances and they look awful!

Balloon valances hold a dear place in my heart...and that is where they will stay. I had Laura Ashley balloon valances in the first room I didn't share with my brother. It was the early 90s and they were all the rage for little girls rooms. And of course there was a coordinating wallpaper boarder :-)

Had them in the early 90s. Hated them at the time. They are long gone but I still hate them almost as much as bows. . . anywhere including my curtains and my clothing.

A tailored look is more up to date. I used the shades 25 years ago and they were lovely then. Like everything, they go out of style. Now I can't imagine using them. I think plantation shutters will go the same way in a couple of years, but I do love them now.

If you like them in your home, they are in style
