Would rather paint the doors and windows with wimbledon tennis court green matte and retain the present Color for the brick walls.

I totally get the interior colors that you've used, so far ("green, gray, black"). I'm not a red door gal, either. My suggestions for your door, exterior window trim and railings are: Sherwin Williams Artichoke (SW6179) or Sherwin Williams Avocado (SW2861). Beautiful house, btw!

I agree that a green door would be beautiful. You could still use black or charcoal for other accents, like house numbers, larger lanterns flanking the garage door, planters, etc. Great house!

Photoshop the door and see what you like. I've done that with several designs. You might be amazed what you like and what you don't. The obvious greys and neutrals may not be the way to go. You may even change your trim color. ENJOY be bold....

I would paint all the white trim on house, windows and garage door a medium gray/blue, front door semi gloss cherry red or black. Add a brushed silver kick board at the bottom of door and paint the entire brick entry/railings the same trim gray color. Reface the brick steps with a natural gray/multi color flagstone with dark grout. Continue the same flagstone for your walkway if in budget or paint it with concrete pain of the same gray tone as trim. This is what I'd design.... :-)

Every time I see black front door, it looks like a black hole, just disappearing. You want your front door to be inviting - it should be the place the eye goes to when looking at the house, inviting you in. Either a pop of color, or a lighter shade than the house color will draw the eye there. A rust, cream, or chocolate brown. I kind of like that apple green too! Good luck. I just finished a big interior remodel and cannot emphasize enough how worth it is to get some poster boards, and paint big samples to look at in different times of the day. You'll be able to elimate some pretty quickly!

The easiest way to pick the perfect door color for your home is to take a photo of your home, print it, cut out the door in the photo, then slip color sample cards in the cut out space.

Clarksville gray for door, sidelights and top rail of railing. Atrium white for all trim, spindles, facia, soffit etc. That would be my choice from the photo and picking colors from my phone. You may want to consider a warmer gray due to the warmer tone of white in the brick. The window sashes would even look good in Clarksville Gray as well. I'm not sure if you were planning on repainting the trim and windows but thought I'd suggest it for now or later. The color is also great at camouflaging dirt on the windows. The bright white trim is very stark against the textured brick. Choosing a softer more neutral trim color will soften the exterior and blend the different materials. Also, using a color that can be found or at least blend with the natural surroundings in the landscape will give your home a casual, timeless elegance. You can always get bright punches of color with plants, pots etc. You are very lucky to have a brick house because it requires less maintenance than others. Annual house washing should brighten the exterior. Chose classic colors that you won't tire of in a short time.
It is hard to pick an exact color from a photograph so I would suggest pulling colors similar to the brick or mortar and go from there. You can chose something in the same family but darker. I would stay away from golds because they can look very different than expected and often quite offensive, like dirty diaper offensive. Stay with warm, neutral grays. For trim, stay away from anything too yellow or gold. Each color may look great alone but together, may not work. If you have trouble, look at BM Affinity colors. They all go well together. Start with the lighter color for your trim, one that goes well with brick and mortar then find an accent color you like in the same Affinity collection. There are several directions you can go in, even explore the various suggestions you have received. I love Mascarpone AF 20 and Fossil AF 65. They seem to go well with almost anything and go beautifully with every color in the collection. It's fairly fool proof. Just remember, your jumping off color should go with the brick and mortar because that's not changing.

Lots of wonderful ideas! Depending on budget my vision would be to highlight the enire entry by painting or staining the brick and fascia and steps or overlaying with different stone. Use highlight color around windows to highlight against the light brick. Don't feel your door is the issue but rather need to highlight the entire wonderful character of your entry to make a statement with your home. Change door color accordingly. Also, the entry is setting the stage for the entire home so colors should flow. Great idea of making colors pop in pots or in landscaping. Hire a local reputable decorator to help you choose the right shades of colors. You will be glad you did! Good Luck!

Keep it simple you had it right

Your home is crying out for some color! Be a little adventurous, it is just paint...if you find it to be too much for you (give it thirty days), you can always go back to a plain grey.....

I would go with red.

To the photos from Stamps Design Service. I find it amusing that of the six doors you showed, I find them all hideous but LOVE the gray one, especially the windows above it and the moldings.

I don't care for any of the reds anyone has posted but no one has yet posted a deep rich red sample that would look fabulous on your door. You started this post asking for ideas to add some COLOR to your entry and people have given you all kinds of ideas. However, you sound like you really like gray, which is what you stated you were thinking of to begin with, so I say GO FOR IT. It's your home and you're the one who sees it every day and you're the one who needs to like it. I personally think most people would not think of gray or white when they think of color, so when you get ready to put your home on the market you may want to add some true color accents to brighten up the bland white/gray color scheme and give it more curb appeal.

Actually, I never wanted color ideas. I had just asked if Storm by Benjamin Moore would look good or would a darker gray look good.

Many years ago I lived in a multi colored red brick home . I changed the front door from white, (what everyone in the development had) to bright red. I accented shutters in black. Next thing you know, my neighbors started painting their doors all different colors too. That touch of red was gorgeous and my neighbors all loved it enough to dare to add drama to their doors as well. We became the "painted lady's" block.

Answering your question, any color gray or otherwise (color wheel colors) will work with the white brick home. White is neutral. Anything goes.

It seems you have decided and feel most comfortable with some form of gray rather than colors from other color palettes. I recommend choosing a gray that 'you' like as they too also have different undertones. all grays will work with white brick.
Choose one 'you' like.

In this instance, you have the entire spectrum of grays open to you because of the very neutral white brick.

There is no need to consider another color outside of the gray palette unless you want some contrast. Any other color in the color wheel could be an option. The brick is neutral.

You also do not need to consider any colors that need to blend or work with any other color due to the lack of a second color to consider with the entire home.

Whatever color you choose, I would consider 2-3 tones to create interest .... from the same gray color palette. I would prefer a light color on the door to contrast with the glass that appears to be charcoal or black.

There are some beautiful gray-green colors for your door. Search "green front door" on the Houzz site to see some examples.

nbehrens: Just circling back...to your original question! Storm seems like it is plenty dark enough. Although your earlier like of a green/gray door, and springcath's comment made me wonder if something with a green cast might really set off the door, especially given your front garden. Benjamin Moore has a paint called Gray Horse that might do the trick. I'm envisioning a border planting of lambs ear to set it all off!

I''d go with bright fuschia, ie. hot pink, like the door in the photos of Stamps Design Services. I have that color on my house and it just POPS!! Nicer than red because it POPS LOL No really a pink door is so different, everybody has red or purple doors, the fuschia kind of combines the 2.

Hi! I love your house! I would start by painting all the trim black and leave the door for now. I think once you add the contrast you will see that's the white door is welcoming as a dark color to a door that is so inset will look like a hole on the middle of the house

Wow, that's a lot of advice for the door! My eye keeps going to the garage lights, they're way too small for the house size and the landscaping really needs to be punched way up. Add some curves and plant things to the other side of the sidewalk and along the driveway. Use a variety of colors in the plants to wake things up!

nbehrens, You want grey. Go with green-grey (or blue-grey), not too dark because of your glass storm door: it will make your color appear darker. Best wishes that you find success with that door color ~it certainly has generated a lot of comments!

Any color you love will work. But do use a two color theme and include the A frame as previously suggested. You said you wanted to keep the railings white because it looks crisp clean and inviting but I would ask you to reconsider this once you have chosen your colors because I think it will look odd. The railing are part of the invitation to the entry and should coordinate with it.

If you can live without the storm door I would do so. They never add interest or beauty and really detract from them inviting look you are trying to create. I live in Chicago without one and really don't think it makes a difference in the interior environment.

I'd also ask you to reconsider the adirondack chairs because they do not go with the style of your house. Perhaps high Back rockers would look better and are just as inviting.

Also the landscaping you add around the stairs will greatly add to the beauty of the entry.

As for the garage door; I would try to de-emphasize that space. You want the emphasis to be on the people entry not the vehicles entry.

Well, I'd go with a deep purple, like eggplant. Because purple looks wonderful with yellow, even the light yellowish color of your steps. And it would be so intriguing and different. I'd do the door and the surrounding wood. It would make your entryway just POP!

Well, most of the comments seem to be from very timid people. You can stay traditional without being boring. Some suggested a lime or apple green. That would be wonderful. Make sure you add some charcoal or black to the handrails (change them out to decorative ironwork?) and add some black/charcoal shutters to the main windows.
Reds and deep yellows are also good choices but they are sooooo done. It would look great, but consider living on the edge a bit. Maybe try a magenta and then add some flowers with those tones. If you don't like the brighter colors then you can always repaint something more subdued later. But have a bit of fun. Risk it!!!!!

Whatever color you choose, just remember that you have the door frame (which is kind of the M frame around the sidelight and the door), and the frame of the windows on the door and on the sidelight that you need to keep in mind in terms of color choice.

Do you keep those white or paint as well?

This is where Photoshop comes in handy to replicate different possibilities before you decide to go ahead with a particular color/scenario.

Also just black and white photos of your door and do like you use to do in grade school and take out those coloring pencils!

I know you don't like red, but do explore the current versions of'red'. ALSO...I did really like the idea of a rich teal, not so dark to make the entry gloomy, but clear and bright but really rich. And I would do the sidelights the same color, with white trim to also brighten. I like the idea of planets, but would not make them symmetrical...would have maybe different heights and/or styles, on one side of the door,and maybe one stately, unique standout on the other side. Or just the three.
Have fun with it, be bold, but not ostentatious. Gotta remember the potential of selling later, and you really do need to make a statement in all if that neutral color. Grey, navy etc, just doesn't do it, and yellow/gold simply clashes, imho, and brings nothing to it. Bottom line, you need to enjoy it, but be a tad safe with the bold, a bit bold with the safe.

I'm a red door lover! I had one on my white house and it was catchy, sophisticated, and inviting. If you aren't a red door fan I'd go with the dark grey... Quite dark. Nothing worse than everything just blending in and washing out. Dark color would make it look sharp.

I think a dark color would not be welcoming. Your house is so beautiful I would look in your closet and find the color that you love the most and makes you feel good and that's your color.
