I'm planning a new 3/4 bathroom as we finish our basement. The upper two full bathrooms have tub/shower combos with tile surrounds. As this will be a shower only (not enough space for a tub), I'm debating on whether to purchase a prefabricated base / wall / glass door unit or to purchase base and door, then install tile. We are located in an upper middle class suburb. Most neighbors have a half bath in their basements, but we are adding a bedroom and thought a shower would be an added bonus. Our house is the cheapest in the neighborhood right now (in part because the surrounding basements are finished), and we are trying to get as much resale bang for our buck from this renovation as we can - hopefully we can land somewhere close to the others on the block. We are not particularly handy, so whatever we do will be contractor installed. That makes tile the more expensive option. Is it worth it?
