What child wouldn't love an area like this for creative play? I love the unexpected and sophisticated color palette and attractive open storage. Add some comfy floor pillows to create a reading nook and the kids will be happily distracted...hopefully for hours:)

I think having a dining table with folding leaves is an excellent idea for this space. A table and corner bench as suggested by 14thStreet is good element to incorporate into a sunroom/playroom as well as a comfy spot for yourself!

Here are a couple I thought were very pretty and wanted to share:

a child's craft room would be awesome with all that natural light. I would get a child sized round table even if I have to shorten the legs on one storage ottomans can house supplies and a clothes line could be used for displaying finished work . if the room gets a lot of traffic it may not be ideal for reading or study

I agree with all above. But you to take the next step. Your kids won't be little forever. (Mine are now at that point that they are more frequently trying to get away from me than holding onto my apron string :-{ .) The craft room is a great idea -- but what's next? A study? A homework room? An office? Depending on your answer, it could impact your steps in the room. I love the picture with the window seats wrapped all the way around and a large table nestled in the window seat. The table can do double duty as a craft table/dining table.

I agree with a banquette and large table. You can do craft projects now, storing all those supplies underneath the built in. It then also doubles as dining space for dinner parties. Fabrics that are more designed for outdoors/hospitality (read hard-working) would look great and be durable. Add a chandelier which will set it off beautifully. Then on the other side of the sunroom, would have a little seating area with 2 chairs. How lucky for you to have such a great space.

This room looks like a cozy place for a cup of coffee and a good book while you are watching the kids. I love the idea of the window seating with comfy reading chairs. I would invest in a drop cloth to throw over your area rug and voila "craft center" for those times the kids are in the mood or when they are older and turn your sunroom into the poster making center for pep rallys or science projects. I might consider having a temporary table that you can use at will when you are entertaining. I have a friend who had a piece of wood cut exactly the length she wanted to put over a smaller table to allow for 12 guests. With the table cloth and other decorations, I had no idea until I asked where she got the dining table. The smaller table folds and stores. That way, you have room for children (large or small) to run from kitchen to outside without having to dodge tables.

I agree with Bond Girl and Reginacpa. If you are going to make it a special space out of this for your kids, make sure that it will be a room that it can grow with your kids. This way it will always stay as a kids' hang out.

Also the idea of having cozy place to snuggle, read, and watch the kids is wonderful. You can easily make this room a multi-functional room by using furniture pieces as you suggested yourself.

If you turn this into another play space then all the toys will eventually migrate upstairs. Then you will be wondering what to do with the old playroom. Also, with the french doors, the clutter is going to be visible at all times.

I think returning this room to what it was intended for would be good. A sunroom/sitting area would allow you to have a place to watch your kids while they play in the back yard without you actually having to be right with them at all times.

You mentioned a drop leaf table. It would be nice to place one under the end window. It could serve as a narrow, flat surface until needed for the extra dining space. A couple of comfy wing chairs and ottomans would probably be all the furniture this small room would need. Then when company comes to eat, the wing chairs could be pulled up to the ends of the unfolded table. Bring out a few folding chairs and viola, seating for at least 6. On the occasions when the kids want to do crafts, only one side of the table would need to be raised. Cover it with plastic for protection and let them at it. Easy clean up and your room is back to an adult space again.

Read all the comments. Loved the ideas of seating around the windows with storage underneath. How about a round table for everyday stuff and use the same round table as a pedestal adding the extra custom made top suggested for seating 12 on top for "special occasions? If the round table got messed up with crafts or whatever it certainly wouldn't be noticed under the added custom top. This top could be made small with leaves to add for expansion for guests and easier storage.

I agree with the window seats. Make them flip up for toy storage and add a nice book case for quiet time reading and looking out the window. A versatile round table with a sturdy surface for drawing and crafts placed toward the window so you can walk around it for in and out the door on the right. The windows are nice the way they are so I would lose the valances and install celluar blinds with a small headrail. WIth the hard wood floors I would bring in a round rug to make the space really appealing. May want to lose the french doors as it is a lot of opening and closing if the kids are in there a lot. The space could be delightful.

I agree with "read all the comments". LOVE the idea of wrap around window seats with flip up tops (using piano hinges) or open cubbies for books as storage, with durable but attractive fabrics for cushions. Toys and crafts supplies can be quickly hidden for the arrival of guests. Cushion fabrics could eventually be changed as tastes change. I also agree with the advice that your children won't stay small forever so I think it is important to think about how you would ultimately like this room to function and plan for any construction to incorporate the ultimate intended use (such as the window seats, lighting, etc.). A long, slender drop leaf table can be used for kids homework and crafts, but also as a desk area with a laptop and a desk lamp, as well as a dining table with banquette seating when the need arises.
