I think you have more than enough of the blues and greens going on. I would find a matching color to the sofa for draperies first. Now you need to tie in the sofa.

I would something to give it a little bit of shine and dimension. Maybe silver framed pieces framed gallery style with pictures of photography or family. I would also add some gray velvet throw pillows or silver fabric throw pillows to tie the two together and add repetition to the space.

Would love to add family pictures I have tons and nothing has been hung up!! I need to buy frames though... Any suggestions? Should j keep frames the same matchy/matchy or do different ones?

You've got a big wall to fill. If you're going to use family photos, approach them like art. Enlarge and frame each one--don't use those collage frames for snapshots--and make sure each photo is worthy of interest. The kids on a sled or playing dress up usually are; those crappy school photos where everyone gets the same blue background are not.

Frames can get expensive, so check Ikea. They even have multipacks of frames if you need a lot. Also, check the thrift stores for interesting frames. Remove the art and paint them all the same color so different styles of frames tie together.

You can also frame pictures from old calendars. The pictures are usually decent quality, and two or three colorful van Gogh's interspersed among black and white photos of the kids can make a compelling display.

Thanks so much I love the PB frames but they're def out of my budget :( I like the shelves on the wall since I have zero places to put anything (no shelving) though I'm not sure where I would find ones that long. I will check ikea for frames

Try some large framed colorful art posters/prints of an artist you like. Matisse would look great!

@Natalie C, Definitely check Ikea, they have long shelves. They also have those nice units to put baskets in. You can coordinate to your décor. I know, I have plenty to hide the bright colored things you need close by. lol :) Good luck! I love the rug and colors! :)

If I go with those shelves do you think I should do the dark wood which goes with my couch/coffee table or the white which keeps things lighter? And is there any guide by which to hang those as far as how high up they should be placed or where on that wall like centered or closer to the tv?

I just reread your original post and see that you are renting, so maybe the floating shelves are not the best idea. Perhaps a bookcase would be better. You could put bins on the bottom shelves for toys, pictures and books and objects on the upper ones.

Or you might do a low Ikea Kallax unit on both sides of the TV, then hang your photos above each. Let me rethink this.

If you do decide to go with shelves, it would be helpful if we could see all the way to the left end of that long wall. It's the only way we can be sure to achieve balance.

Thanks for the extra photos. If you did a taller bookcase, you'd have to secure it to the wall, so perhaps a lower unit would work better. Let me do a couple of mock ups on the photo that shows the whole wall, and you can see what you think.

Onto your next dilemma. What about a long, low bookshelves/cabinet all the way across the wall for your TV and your toddlers' toys? Ikea has lots of styles and combos. You could use one end for a landing strip with mirror, lamp, bowl for keys for your entrance and the farthest other end for your TV. A couple anchor screws would help keep the shelves safe from toppling. You could spackle the holes if you move. Lower shelves could be toys for your little one.

As for art, a skyscape in blues--almost like a window view of the sky--could look beautiful hung fairly high where your ceiling slopes up. This would balance out the big TV. These Etsy skyscapes came up on a Google search. https://www.etsy.com/listing/129347414/landscape-painting-original-modern

I picked up the Threshold Windham cabinet in black from Target, but you could do the low Ikea Kallax or any low cabinet that is about this size and fits your needs. The first gallery wall is more interesting, but the pictures might be too low for monkey boy. The plant would be nonpoisonous in an unbreakable pot.

The second gallery wall is less interesting, but probably safer.

If you do the shelves, I'd get the dark ones to go better with your other furnishings and would hang them about as I've shown. I'd try not to go any higher than shown below. I stuck a couple of bright poufs underneath for the kids.

I still like the shelves better I think although I do like that very low case from ikea too darn it's so hard to decide!

Natalie C, they do have different sizes. They can be grouped together to form different shapes. We use the low one as seating also. Video game playing. LOL :) You could do shelves above with lower unit for toys where the little one could reach and not get hurt??? Good luck!

It's coming along I bought two of those cubby shelves and two of the six foot lack wall shelves! I want to put a lot of pictures in the wall shelves I just need to make a decision as to the Color of the frames. Do I go dark like the wood, white to contrast, or maybe silver?

Hi Natalie C, I think you could do any of those, I like the idea of some shine in the room, so maybe silver? I think some contrast on the shelves would be nice. You could even mix it up by popping in a few colored frames or accessories that have the colors in your rug. Glass would be pretty among the frames also, and safe from reach by tiny hands. lol :) I love what you picked, they are great storage. Hi everyone here are a few photos we removed (temporarily) the large coffee table bc I was getting beevous with my 14 month old son that he was going to get hurt from it. I put up shelves with pictures, I just need to figure out what to do with the wall next to the window
