The football panels were custom-made by a local vendor in New Canaan. If you'd like us to find the vendor info, pls email us at info@garrisonhullinger.com and we can share that with you.

Custom wall panel mural. We purchased the rights to the photo from the artist, then www.pixersize.com was used to print the over-scale mural. The finish carpenter made the raised panels out of plywood and attached to the wall. The wallpaper hanger cut the mural into strips and applied to the panels to create the unique effect.

I would like to learn what type of material the wall mural from pixersize.com was printed on… Vinyl? Pixerstick? Premium Vinyl Wall Mural?

Also, how wide was this room? Was one piece of plywood used for each row or two? If two, how were they connected to show a seamless connection?

How much did the rights to the photo cost?

@arosz, we have found it best to use these images of our projects as inspiration and then determine how you can best execute for your specific project. If you're working with a professional they will formulate the details. If you're a diy project person a lot of the measurements and specifics are not going to translate to your project. The substrate for the mural needs to be a level 4 or level 5 depending on the wallcovering. Here's a link for you to reference for wall finish: http://nationalgypsum.com/resources/tech-talk-revisiting.htm. Each artist is going to determine the cost of their artwork, once you find the art you want contact that person directly and start your negotiating. Here's an example of an original photograph that we purchased to be printed on wallpaper and then hung on a barn door...so there's many applications for you to explore and price out for your specific project: http://garrisonhullinger.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Photo-Feb-08-8-51-47-AM-e1328721969959-450x600.jpg

    Hi!
What is the size of the picture in pixels or dpi?
Should be very tall size to download in "pixersize.com"?
    Thanks!
And is it in black and white or sepia?

    Thanks another time!!!!

We worked with http://pixersize.com/ and they defined all requirements for the image. We definitely put some umber tones to the image, so not a black and white image.

Do you know where I can purchase a vintage basketball image to do something similar for my sons room?

Kate M...looking to do this in my son's room. I see the width of the photo is the width of the wall. How did you decide on a height dimension?

    @radcliff absolutely!
@trussian I did there full 8 feet of ceiling height so could adjust up or down a few inches based on where the images fell on the panels
  • 10 years ago
@roicepig go to shutterstock.com and you can perform a search

Kate - Can I contact you as well to get the specifics on how you executed this? I have already been in touch with the artist to license that Steeler's photo that Garrison Hullinger used and know to go to Pixersize. But wondering what size and thickness of boards or gypsum you used, how you applied the image to that and how you went about mounting all of it. Thanks!

Kate M - any chance you would be willing to share your process with me? I'm really wanting to do this in each of my boys' rooms.

Mistywood75 I would love to know if you completed this project? Sending you and email.

Decided to shift gears and do something else. The cost (est. to be ~$1k) was too high and all that was required in terms of materials and time was just too much. Also, my son and I agreed that while this mural is really cool, it is a pretty intense image, especially given its size, to be immersed in day to day. A really good interior designer suggested we paint horizontal stripes of varying colors and widths instead. After painting these I'm going to get a framed pro football jersey to hang on the same wall. Good luck to you if you attempt this project.
