Thank you! Thank you! The more I think about it, the more I am certain that the bed is supposed to be next to the door. We have not been able to figure out the best way to put the other furniture in the room all these years. If we moved the bed, everything will find its right place.

Some people prefer to see the door without turning around, but some people don't like staring down a hall from their bed. Only you know which type of person you are and if you'll like the whole room better with the bed by the doorway try it! I would only draw the line at facing a bathroom from my bed. I see a lot of that in model homes and wonder what's up with that.

So long as the furniture positioning works for you and your family, don't worry about design rules. Make your home your own so you like it. I can't tell you the number of dilemmas I've seen on here where the person was so worried about conforming to design rules, and having everything just right, and wanted to figure out why they didn't like their home. It was because it didn't reflect their personality!

The rule of thumb is to be able to walk in and see the end of the bed. But in some cases, it is not possible...just remember the bed should be the focal point....and everything else is to compliment it!

When we lived in our other home and still had kids living at home, our daughter's bed was next to the door as it, too, only worked there in her space. It was a cute room and totally worked for her.

It depends on the room's architecture. No sure rule exists.

I will definitely try it! Our bed is in fact facing the bathroom, but since we close the bathroom door at night, it doesn't bother me as much as the window above out headboard. Because of the assumed design rule, we placed the bed against the long side of the rectangular room, but everything else is like in the wrong place. I just never had the courage toto move the bed. move the bed

Relax, there is no Bed Placement Police squad that will show up and write you a ticket. Try things out here, there and everywhere. This is your private space!


I have placed ours on three of the four walls and into two corners at a 45 degree angle. Right now it is on the longest "traditional" wall, but I miss the view I had when it was in the corner by the window. I could lie there and see the stars. Actually, this was when Hale Bob comet was streaking across the sky!
