Love it. I would get a paint color similar to the quartz on your island as an accent.. I notice you've used that tone in your glass tile and on the back wall by the fireplace. (Hard to tell on pictures.)

The BM silver chain has a blue undertone which I think will look even bluer in such a large expanse. Have you looked at BM Shaker beige? It really has no undertone so will go with anything. Also, what did you face your fireplace with? It looks copperish. Can you post a pic closer to the fireplace? Here is a sample of BM Shaker Beige.
In deciding on the perfect color for your space -- the best method is to paint a whiteboard in 2 or 3 colors you like and try them on different walls (at night and during the day). You can get whiteboards at drugstores or office supply stores. It sounds like a lot of work but it's better than finding out the color doesn't work after you've painted.

Here's a pic of the fireplace and mosaic tile. The fireplace is a dark charcoal gray.

The tile surround looks like a brick red -- is that correct? Also, what colors did you have in mind for furniture?

The tile is a glass mosaic tile that changes over the course of the day. It's predominately shades of sunset red and redish orange, with some subtle yellows and blues mixed in.

As for furniture and shades, we were waiting to decide on colors until we know the wall colors, but we overall like darker furniture...blacks and browns.

You should always select your furniture before paint color -- it's easier to match paint to furniture than it is to find furniture to go with your paint.

That actually makes a lot of sense now that you say it that way, lol. Unfortunately, the painters have already started on other parts of the house and we don't have any furniture ordered.

Our existing furniture (some of which we'll keep) included a black leather sofa/love seat and the attached console table from West Elm. Overall, though, we have a good bit of furniture/decorations to buy, so we can go in several directions.

I also didn't mention that we're looking for one general color for the majority of the open spaces house with accent walls where we need them. Almost all of the downstairs has that travertine and the upstairs has dark chocolate hardwood.

We spent the weekend painting boards and trying out colors, and think we have it narrowed down to three for our primary color - Restoration Hardware Ash, RH Stone, and SW Accessible Beige. The shaker beige was too bright for us and brought a yellowish out in our tiles.

Here's a couple pics of our colors. The accessible beige is the color already on the wall in the first pic, the ash is the lighter one on the board, and stone is the darker one. The most beige color on the board was the shaker beige

I like stone the best but how does it look next to your floor?

It looks good - here are three pics with stone. We have dark hardwood on our landing upstairs, so the color will also go there.

We were planning to go monochromatic, with the ceilings and floorboards painted the same color as the wall (other than the accent walls). We like that look, but would stone be too dark for the ceiling or should we paint the ceiling another color?

That color looks great. How tall are the ceilings? If over 9 ft you can get away with the same color. If not, I'd go a shade or 2 lighter. Or to be on the safe side (no matter the height) I'd go with a shade lighter - it is a deep tone.

Our ceilings are 10 ft.

This is probably a beginner question, but when you say 1-2 shades lighter, so you mean cutting the stone color a certain percent or choosing an entirely different lighter color?

When you get your paint - just ask the colorist for the same color but a few shades lighter. He/she will know which tints to reduce or add to achieve what you want. Make sure they know what they are doing - I find that a lot of paint stores are hiring students that have not been trained in color.

Even seasoned paint store employees don't know the difference between tint, shade and tone.
