I am working with a blank slate. We have a 1909 house gutted and ready for rebuild. After much debate we decided on a basic layout. However, while designing the kitchen I cannot decide on a whether to put in an island or just wrap the countertop all the way around. I have included 2 different layouts with an iPhone app I use. The cabinets on the app are pretty crude so try to ignore them.

The kitchen size is 14x12. There needs to be flow from the back mud room to the dining room so I figure 4' should be ample between the pantry to the kitchen counter or island. The jut out is what is making me think an island would be goofy looking.

I really want to be able to eat at the bar or the Island. I cannot justify putting a table in the kitchen due to the fact that the dining room is 30x12.

Basically, island or wrap around counter?
