I'm all for NOT matching, so I'd go for a console. It could be black or a wood tone.

Either one, it will make the room look more finished.. Pretty room!

What do you think of this mosaic console table?
It's red and orange mosaic tiles and I think the gold wrought iron will pull the entire room together...maybe?

I believe a large planted pot placed on the floor on each side of the picture - where the walls "bend" would bring a lot of life into the room and finish off the back wall without being too crowded with furniture.

It doesn't seem to relate to anything in the room. It's a wild child for sure!

You've already got a built in on the other end. You don't need a table or a credenza there. I would lower the art to the center of the wall and let it stand alone. I would also group the stuff on top of the built in instead of lining everything up.

Your rug is too large. It needs to be about a foot smaller all the way around.

Definitely agree about regrouping your things on the top of the built in. I would put your candles together, remove the end vase and instead put the "tree" branch there to anchor the space, and group the remaining items to the right of the candles and perhaps a stand alone smaller piece at the other end.

I think all you have to do is lower the painting. The center of the painting should be around 5' above the floor.

Lower art, smaller rug, a bit of grouping on the built in. I would lower the art to about eye level when seated, with more space above it than below.

I will work on lowering the art and grouping the items on the built-in. To get my husband to resize that carpet is a whole other task!

Do any of you like this bench?

A console would be of more use than a bench in a dining room since the console could be used for serving. It would also provide a nice foundation for the painting which you would then hang about 5" above the console.

I do! I like odd things. What I don't like is that swirl of blue sticks;(

No on the bench :-) for me. So, I'm feeling a huge disconnect on the white built-in and the DR set, so I'm inclined to add a buffet, to punch up the "formality" of the wood. One that more or less matches at least in wood tone, your dining room set. I think the yellow is the wrong color paint for the room. I think a light gray would be better. I think that decreases the contrast between the builtin and ... everything else. I love builtins and yours matches all your casings but it just feels off to me as is. I guess its all in what one is used to. I think you might need to replace your DR set, or I would want to paint/refinish the builtin to a wood tone. Grover trimmed out your rug beautifully! This is the rare case where the rug is too big! Usually, it is the other way around. And what about a chandelier? Just some ideas to think about. Actually, you might want to consider painting the whole room a white to match casings and built ins. It would definitely free you to add color.

The built in will not serve as a server (pun intended) so I'm down for a buffet.

Oh those blue sticks!!! They do offend - they're apart of the other side of the room where I have other design dilemmas happening! :-)

Agree with Lessismore ... a server in dark wood look nice.

@Jeanie, I can't find your dining room dilemma. Did you start one?

I love eclectic rooms that blend different aesthetics together, but I feel there's a disconnect between the built-ins, the dining table and the art. You might consider removing the current centerpiece and runner on the dining table and replacing it with a vase or bowl that reflects the Caribbean vibe in the art? This would bring the art and the dining table together and unify the setting a little bit more.

Don't buy any of Modtempo's credenza's you will regret it - cheap and poorly made.

I agree with groveraxle lower the art a bit just make it centered and a rug is really big for the room. If you'd go with console table we would recommend someting light looking so you don't clutter the space.
