I do not think I'd try to introduce a light brown with the dark brown. So jealous you live by an Arhaus loft. The light tufted ottoman is the link I sent above its from williams sonoma.

Hi, I like amandacortese's ottoman pick. I was looking at your inspiration photo and the color tones, if not the exact style, reminded me if this loft that Houzz toured yesterday. He used a large mirror (he made himself!) but it made me wonder how a large leaning mirror would look in your room...would it reflect your windows? Can we see your other two walls?

You asked about adding color. How do you feel about the blue rug the loft owner used under his sofa? You could also use the warm corals and reds from your inspiration photo. I think same-toned browns are a problem, as is any mainly dark brown or gray toned rug, MO. I think a hide rug might be pretty.

I'm also attaching some random cb2 photos for you to react to. There's a contemoprary multicolored, but light rug, shown in a dark room. It made me wonder if your ottoman would work if you anchored it to the sofa with a rug.

I added a shot of cb2's acrylic side table (I like Margo's post, above, too.) Do you like this style of table? It's in your inspiration photo.

How about an ombre faux fur throw for the sofa? I also threw in some more pillows to go with the steer pillow I posted above.

The room is open to the dining room (facing the sofa) and the entry way (facing the wall where the art goes). The walls are actually calm orange and the dining room color is slightly lighter shade of orange. The entry way is a brown and there is a large niche in the entryway that is tan in color in which I have a metal brown art.
I was just thinking about having some orange in the rug or perhaps red since a couple of my dining chairs are red.

The way the couch is pictured on the Arhaus site is with an antique mirror coffee table with antique black legs and that is why I brought this up in my earlier post to see what you guys think. The sofa is big, heavy and elegant.

Hi hkns, I'm posting a photo of the mirrored coffee table you wanted comments on. I like the idea of a mirrored piece but think I would prefer it in a mirrored console for your wall or a side table. The PB table seems a bit stark for your room.

I also found a square, non tufted ottoman from Serena and Lily. (They have a tufted one too. :) ). The nice thing is it can be finished in leather or fabric. I attached a photo of a couple red fabric options. The ottoman image is TINY so I am including the link.

Thanks so much!! I am hesitant about the mirrored table too. Wow! There is so many options for fabric for that ottoman. I am not really sure I want to go with bright pattern on the ottoman, I was thinking more like pattern that ties both the couch and the chair or solid neutral. How about this?

You can, but they should compliment each other. I have this chair & matching ottoman with a patterened area rug. (the ottoman is at the end of the sofa, tucked by the stairs) Both are rich, earthy colors. gold, blue, burgandy, green, brown.

Actually, the sofa fabric is a weave with all those colors in it as well. Besides the rug, none of the pieces have a large or bold print, so no certain piece is fighting with another to be the focal spot. It's probably the rug, if anything, that will draw the eye.

Ohh I really like the ottoman you linked from arhaus. It does not match wall color though, if at all feasible I would paint walls. If you are dead set on that color walls or cannot change, I would get a solid neutral ottoman.

Is the arhaus ottoman longer than your brown tufted one? The arhaus is 47 ".

I think a more square and lighter or contrast color ottoman would be better. The tufting is nice, but right now it's too "matchy matchy." It should be more substantial in the room.

I think a glass table with darker metal legs might be a consideration. Something like this:

The arhaus ottoman is slightly less in length but more in width and height than the charcoal one shown in my first pic. I agree that it should be bigger and substantial.
So the charcoal one in my first pic is 51 L x 21 W x 15 h
The one by arhaus is 47 L x 30W x 18h.. Is that big enough? How about 42 x 42? and What colors can I use in this room safely other than the neutral or the one shown above?

I think as long as the ottoman is taller than your current one, it can be a bit smaller and still work. I do like the idea of a square one though. Here's the one from Williams-Sonoma in a light neutral:

Hi---wow, you have some beautiful pieces, but nothing seems cohesive. I'm confused with the wall colors in relation to the red pillows/chairs and charcoal sofa. Perhaps, the best way to figure out how the room should be furnished would be to have something as inspiration. In this case, I think a rug, pillow, or colorful art would be a good start. In my opinion, everything would look 10x better if the wall colors were different, more neutral. SW's Collonade Gray and Pussywillow are worth checking into. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

hi, besides for furniture, i really think you should consider repainting, this colour is much too dark- first it looked Brown, on the second post of pix it appears a very dark mustard... with ur tufted furniture, its just too much. plus, a dark room automatically feels smaller.

It's interesting that you brought the wall color up. First thing I asked the decorator/designer that I hired is to change the wall color and choose something that is lighter and flows naturally with the rest of the colors in the house which are mostly brown. These rooms flow into a great room with 20fet celing). After spending 30 min looking into colors (time I paid for btw) he said The current mustard color is the best color i can have unless I change all the colors in the house. He commented "this is more fun, a neutral color would be boring" and me giving him all th e trust, I agreed. I had the red chairs before I moved into this house and I put a red pillow to tie the rooms together and add color.
Perhaps I should start at the coffee table/ottoman.. I'm confused.

wow, unbelievable what People take Money for... i think u'll feel much lighter with a different very neutral wall colour. besides, u have carper, which absorbs natural light as well... is this ur living area? what furniture are you stil gonna Need in here? seems quite empty, you could definetely go with another loveseat...

I think a rug and painting(s) can pull the look together, but the sitting room will probably need to be painted-not sure about the dining area, as the red paired with the walls is not flattering... I also thought the ottoman's shades just added more unrelated, dark tones but not all agree. houzz can be confusing, hkns, but everyone is just brainstorming for you and we expect you to weigh it or ignore it. Breathe, then go with what YOU love, that's what houzzers want for you.

Hi---of those pictured, I like the one paired with your sofa and the cream one best. The cream might be different than your linen chair though. I like the mirrored side table, but am concerned about all the dark finishes in the space. If you can find an ottoman in a light color-any color besides cream, that might be your best choice. Consider light/dark value---light carpet, medium rug, light ottoman, dark sofa. Keep us posted and Good Luck!

Natalie, I have many shades of brown in the house. I think some of the colors are Sherwin Williams Nuthatch and sensational sand. Those are the paint containers the previous owner left.
I'm looking at the designer photo (lakeview pied) and how they mixed the charcoal with the light natural and ottoman.

I like the mirrored nesting tables and I think they will add light to the room. I would like to buy them but want to make sure I will be able to find a coffee table or ottoman that complements them.

If you're keeping the wall color, I like the leather tufted one above if it's close in height to the couch.

I definitely think the tufted ottoman can work---I liked that one and the cream best. If you're willing to paint the walls, then go for it. I recommend picking up the color charts I mentioned, and seeing how they look paired with your existing elements. I compared them to the Nuthatch and Sensational Sand, and they look very nice. I think it would be a great color palette for you. The red still bothers me a little, but once the wall color is neutralized, the room will take on a different feeling. I also recommend painting the columns same as the walls instead of accentuating them. It seems that you're going a bit more casual, than grand---perhaps I was way off with my previous inspirational photos. :) The columns kind of threw me off. I do like the mirrored nesting tables and the last one too...

I may have missed a opts or two here and there, but above everything else, I think the colors need to be changed in this space. I know the topic is the coffee table/ ottoman, but it seems like you are, and have been going on circles here because nothing you are finding seems to work.

I truly believe that this is because the colors you have are just not working. I don't know what is easier for you to do...change the sofa and ottoman completely, or to change paint color. Both are great choices....just NOT together. This could be such a great room with the right choices.

If you want to keep the sofa, change the wall color to something much lighter! What colors are you attracted to? Lighter, softer grays, blues, and greens would work here. It would make your sofa stand out and you could incorporate the current wall color into the space with accent pieces, if you want to. Bring in an area rug too.

Sometimes my clients get stuck on me aspect in a space and get trapped like you seem to be. I tell them to focus on other aspects in the space and to let the "problem" rest for a while. In your case, if you repaint the wall, you may become re-inspired with the end result, and things may fall into place a lot easier than they are now.

Hope this helps.... I'm sorry you are so frustrated. Don't give up....just keep am open mind, and it will be beautiful in the end.
