Eyesore entryway needs make over

This is our back door entry way. It used to be a terrarium left from the previous owner. The room is a mud room. Problem is, if we take the whole thing out, the wood floors are not underneath the terrarium. I thought about painting and taking glass out and putting shelf in it?
