Neither. Another kitchen to clean? No thanks. I'd rather roll around a nice stainless BBQ and replace when they invariably start looking ugly. Plus, I'd rather have a portable fire pit to move around the space so I'm not locked into one layout.

If we had maids, I'd go for the kitchen. Until then, I'll go for the fire pit.

We BBQ all the time 9 months of the year so outdoor kitchen is used more often than indoors!

Wow this is a hard choice. Outdoor kitchen gives me the joy to cook and entertain and most importantly feels the need for my appetite, fire pit
keeps me warm and cozy, telling jokes and stories creating long lasting memories with my friends and family.
So I have to get both

I'm going for the fire pit. You can't sit and keep warm around a barby.

Both. I'd take the outdoor kitchen with a $150 portable firepit. I find that clients don't ever use their firepits as much as they had thought they would so why dedicate a space for it. I try to discourage all my clients from permanent firepits. Instead, i try to persuade them into building a multi use patio and take the money they would spend on the firepit and buy a high end portable unit that they can move out of the way if they aren't using it.

Outdoor kitchen for daytime and the fire pit to sit around at night....ambiance. :) I do love cooking outdoors. I'm out even when it's snowing. lol :)

Living in Minnesota outside kitchen would not be usable much of the year. I also live in an exurb so have a permanent fire pit. And yes fall and winter are our two seasons we love fires. Winter you ask? Around the holidays with falling snow and bright moon -gorgeous!

We have an built-in outside grill and a fire pit. Both of them get lots of use. The kids love the fire-pit for s'mores

I am lucky. My husband is the fire king! We use our fire pit fairly often, and I love spending an evening around the warm glow. We have a small grill which is perfect for us - half side is charcoal, half is gas. A big kitchen outdoors, to me, is not needed as we mostly cook for ourselves and can easily handle a few more folks with what we have.

What a tough decision! We'd say go for it -- have both!

Outdoor kitchen is another invention for wealthy people, unless you live in tropical climate and can cook all year around for family. I prefer fire pit which we use quite often. We had metal movable, but this days we'll build from stone. My husband thought about oven, but after discussion with all family we decided that fire pit is better, as we all can seat around and cook on sticks potatoes, apples, marshmallows (kids love it) and in case we'll sell the house new owners (if not fun of it) can fill with soil and use as raised flower bed, or for sculpture...anything. Pretty garden design can be built around it.

I'd like an outdoor kitchen that includes a woodburning oven (not just for pizza but bread, roast chicken, etc).

Sadly, my backyard is too small - if I did that, it would take 1/2 to 2/3 of the yard.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you first follow all HOA and city restrictions. Too close to a neighbors windows or backyard and that's asking for trouble. Nobody wants to have your smoke or grilling smells permeate their home. If you live in a neighborhood where homes are close together, forget the idea.

Our outdoor gas grill sees action all year long, including using the rotisserie for Thanksgiving turkey. Here in the Houston area, cool weather is scarce so a fire pit wouldn't get as much use. Also due to droughts, there is often a burn ban in place. I'd rather have an outdoor fireplace with a spark arresting chimney. It would make for a great conversation area without having smoke blowing in someone's face.

Because of where I live, an outdoor kitchen isn't practical, but I have a fire pit and use it quite a bit.

The outdoor kitchen, even in FL, is yet another prep area to clean and stock. We use the gas grill for cookouts, but still do prepping of sides, etc in the home. Our fire pit, however, is 15 feet from the lake and surrounded by seating. I bring clean and dry, colorful cushions out and we enjoy smores, ghost stories and look forward to singing Christmas caroles with friends and family very soon!

@diyer59-Personally, i love the smell of a burning charcoal grill and the smell of roasting meat.....Buuuuuttt, we don't have an HOA in our neighborhood.

Almost neck and neck, lol! I just like the idea of a Large Fire Pit so much more than a fireplace type area in the backyard. There again, it is personal preference.

Wouldn't the two choices offer very different functions? If I could only have one, I would opt for outdoor kitchen. Having both covers it all and would make any backyard entertaining a pleasure for both host and guests.

This is going to sound paradoxical coming from someone who doesn't cook (but who loves to eat) I would choose an outdoor kitchen. Smores can be made with any open flame! #BeSeenBeSafe

We have an outdoor kitchen ( room on its own with adjoining store) and a firepit which we use to grill large tuna ( stuffed on a bed of lemons and herbs wrapped in foil) and also for roasting lamb.

I would prefer cooking with an outdoor kitchen but cuddling next to the fire pit.

Como dijo alguien, no quiero limpiar una cocina más. Los fogones son prácticos y cumplen las veces de chimenea, parrilla y cocina. Hay que construirlo amplio y cercano a la cocina de la casa para tener todo a mano.

Hmmm! Hard one. They both serve different purposes. A better poll would be firepit or outdoor fireplace. I DO love that grill for the firepit. I think I want that on mine to cook some yummy piaya.
