There are great laminates available now that look like slabs of stone Formica 180 FX is one once you have picked that then the backsplash and wall color can be decide. Have you considered painting your cabinets white and changing the handles ?

Thank you for your response. There is a lot of grain, knots, etc. in the wood. It would be quite the job to paint.

For countertop I suggest a stone look with cream, beige and lt grey flecks in it, something like in photo below. For backsplash, probably a glass subway tile. You don't want anything too busy looking or another tile since you have tile floor.

I liked the one in the attached pic especially since the color of the cabinets is similar - maybe a similar countertop in laminate can be found with an identical tile color for backsplash.

Also the kitchen seems to need some hanging lights/ chandelier (example of lights also in the pic) to make it feel more personal and warm.

MarleneM, Thank you, That has been the direction I have gone, but then you sometimes begin to question. And, debbsterrc, you are right. I have looked at replacing the light fixtures with something updated but it is hard to find lighting that gives off as much light as what I have presently. I will try looking at the Bellacor website. Maybe they will have something that would work. And thank you for the pics.
