A plantation shutter would be stunning and you could do away with the oversized drapes. You could do the arch and three windows to match. Not only would it be better for a office it wolud have a more masculine feel and allow for better light control. If it is cost prohibitive, your next option could be a cellular/honeycomb shade. The arch would be stationary but you could do a top down bottom up feature on the three lower shades which would give your husband numerous light control and privacy options

Thank you for your response! I looked at hunter douglas shutters, at a neghbors home - I was not so impressed by the quality of the product. Is there another company that you could possibly suggest that makes a more upscale looking product? These shutters were white; the finish looked quite "mass produced", not to sound rude. Also, during the day, light was coming in through the many seams. The neighbor had a similar application; transom window; with a custom fit at the arch of the transom, then 3 sets below. If I did a shutter, I would need to know that the light would be totally blocked out - I do not see how this is possible with the shutters. Plus I would definitely want a brown stain/or brown painted shutter to match the wall color, I would think - do you agree with that? I think that for more of a black out, the honeycomb product might be better, but I was concerned about having a huge monolith shade on this gigantic window. I would prefer 3 separate shades on the bottom portion, but again, I am concerned about light seeping through where each shade ends and the next one begins. I did not know that the shades could be custom made, to fill in the curved transom space up top. If this is possible, I think it would be better to have that, than one large rectangular shade.
