Paint out the oak on the stair BM white dove as well as all of the trim to brighten the room and try a new bright chandelier if he won't paint

Without reading anyone's comments, my impression is that the paint is a tad dark but it makes it more pronouced by having the white mirror frame against it. Same with the white table underneight.

I do like the red accents.

What you could do is have that color on one wall only. With the other walls, go with a shade lighter. A lighter beige brown would actually look nice. Once you find the color that you both like, paint a stripe or two on the wall and see what you think.

What color is the wall? Green, grey brown? I agree with Brandi - you should paint the stair (far left) white. I also think that the mirror and faux dermy gazelle heads don't work at all in the space. They are also not in scale with the table.
A grouping of colorful artwork and a tall simple lamp (or grouping of candles in different holders) on your side table would change the room completely. As would one large piece of artwork. Pics below for inspiration.....

Hard to tell but the color looks interesting and different (in a good way).

The mirror is wrong there.

The white table would look awesome painted in a gold metallic.

A large, dramatic painting instead of all the small plates.

A live plant in a nice container placed to hide the cord and plug. Move antelope heads to another wall. Go for a clean and uncluttered look.

Small items look lost on the dark background - you need a large colorful print to bring some interest to those dark walls.

Try standing the mirror on end (tall) behind the head figure...

Much better. I would go with the same red in the candles though. Try a table runner that mixes red with just a tad of white. I can picture a pretty silk with a Morrocan type pattern :)

Also, the flowers are the same height as the lamp. If you want the lamp there, go with lower flowers. Or just move the lamp to another area and put a vase that is not as high as the lamp.

I like the wall color. It might be a tad dark, but it's very dramatic. None of your sideboard decor is working, though. The plates are disconnected from anything, the lamp is too short, the bust is just odd. The orchid works. Let me see what I can do.

Maybe a much bigger mirror and flank each side with the heads but halfway up the mirror

Yes - Groveraxle has it. The picture could even be wider. This look is cohesive and adds interest to the dark walls. When the candles are lit it will add ambiance to the room while dining with friends or family.

Haven't read any other comments but in your initial photo I do love your wall pieces but the silver heads and he mirror shouldn't be on the same wall. I would maybe keep the mirror there or buy a duplicate and stack them above the side table and maybe put the head with the taller antlers on the adjacent wall by the stairs. Love the colors. The walls are gray? Gray red and white are very cute buy can make a room darker, if you don't have a lot of natural light I would brighten the color a couple shades lighter

I like the candles groveraxle displayed but I would go with a lighter color. A washed out white would look nice. The painting is interesting.
