If you do a counter height table, you will have a hard time finding accompanying chairs...they will all look like stools.

I like the idea of square, though, and you room seems to have a Medeterranean look. How abut something like this? It comes in several sizes.

Square is good. I bought a square table that seats 8. Everybody can be equal and be heard. It's more communal.

I vote no on counter height, though.

Hi, Given the repeated arches in your windows and passages you have strong architectural elements to play off. An expandable round with a simple pedestal base (see Arhaus on line) would be smart looking. If you're adventurous you could use a curved, upholstered bench (banquette) seat. Lee Industries makes a couple of versions. Use 4 chairs and the bench for an unexpected look. If this doesn't seem like something you'd like, an Oval table would be my next choice. To keep the room informal, pick fabrics for the chairs that have a hand woven look like linen and keep the fabrics simple. In a room with as much light and open space as yours you have a lot of freedom for the light fixtures as well. Instead of a typical chandelier you could select something like small pendants, hanging at different heights for drama. Avoid crystal but some glass is OK.

I personally like the "gathering table," height. We actually have one in our home and get compliments on it all the time. Our friends bought a similar one just a bit heavier and more elegant than ours. It's something different and gets away from the more traditional tables.

Jeffrey, I love the idea of a round table with a bench. I actually found one at a local store and loved it, but wasnt sure if it was a good idea.
I used to have a rectangle table but where the two arches meet tends to get hit a lot with chairs.

My walls in that room are a soft mint, do you think I should stick with brown, or could I throw in a darker espresso, blackish?
