Bathroom #2 - Walk in Shower

Again, I have two choices, cream and white. It does have a shower door.

Here are the pictures.

The first two pictures show the bathroom with cream shower wall tile and cream counter top.

The last two pictures show the same bathroom in white. In the white bathroom, please ignore the floor tile shown. The actual floor tile is the same as the one in cream bathroom(small squares), only difference is that they are white in color instead of cream.

What do you think? Which one looks better to you? Please advise.

I like the white, but is the cream already up?

I am never a lover of cream in bathrooms I like white it goes with everthing and you have the opportunity to change accents and accessories without thinking about what color of cream is the one you are working with I like the gray and white marble why not choose a gray if you don't like the white for another neutral in the space.

So, Ann, the bathroom is not yet constructed right now, but it will be under construction very soon. These are sample pictures of the choices I have and I need to decide soon.

Maureen, the builder provides both tiles and it is included in the cost of the home. I don't have to go buy these tiles. Just need to decide which one to put where.

Would it look odd to have different color bathrooms on the same floor? I am fine with it, but I am not sure if it is common. I don't want to make choices that will affect the resale value of the home.

First time buying a home, so I am overwhelmed with the choices. Thanks for your help

I prefer the white but consider if it is marble or a marble porcelain tile. The porcelain tile is more durable over the long run. If you are using marble you have the option of different sizes and introducing pattern. I've done sub-way patterns in 3" x 6" or 4" x 8" and also herringbone patterns are terrific too. Also, think about your finished edges, if it's stone the tile setter can polish the outside edges; if it is tile make sure they are ordering finished edges where they are needed.

I think it's better for each to have it's own personality and more interesting for you.

I would make each one individual, it looks more custom.

You can certainly make each one individual, but I think I prefer white for both.

Not sure if this should affect the choice, but just wanted to share.

There is also a master bath on the same floor. I had two choices for shower wall tile on that one: Carrara Marble and Crema Marfil.

I found the pattern on Carrara marble to be too bold,

I really liked Crema Marfil marble because it has a very subtle color and pattern. I have decided to go with this Crema Marfil shower wall tile for master bath and also do the Crema Marfil marble top for the counter top.

I have attached pictures from the web. I don't have the actual sample pictures of the master bathroom..

Given that I am doing Crema Marfil for master bath, will it look okay to have white in the other two bathrooms on the same floor? Or say white in one with the bathtub and beige in the other walk-in bathroom?

Is it okay to mix and match even though master bathroom is going to be cream?

It seems like cream is generally not as popular a color as white.

Another piece of information that I am not sure is relevant or not is the floor of the entire home.

I have attached pictures of wood samples for the house - I am flexible on this one and can change if it does not look good.

I am thinking of putting tiles for bathroom. Don't really need to decide on that one yet.

So, it seems like most like white shower wall tile with white bath tub. (Bathroom #1). So that definitely helps.

Can someone please help with Bathroom #2 - described in the first comment?

Does cream shower wall tile look better than white?

Honestly, I don't like either choices, too bold and busy for me. So I need help picking up the one that looks less bad. Thanks.

I Like white one better , its looks more modern and expensive , cream look old (in my opinion )

White with the white. Almond in the other, the gold, beige, almond is a more inviting calming spa like IMHO

One more information. The cabinets are white in the bathroom. The doors are white and raised panel.

I am still not sure what cabinet style to choose - shaker or raised. Do you have preference on the cabinet style? If so, please share.

Here are examples of a bathroom we did for a client - I think the tiles look great with the white bathtub and give the room a very classic look and feel.

I prefer Shaker cabinets. If you don't like either tile very much, remember about adding a border which will help detract from the title, shouldn't cost that much and will make the bathrooms look more custom. Good luck.[houzz=]

Not sure without seeing a picture of the panelled door. Might be best to match the door. if you have only white or beige to choose from, I guess it's a personal choice. But my mother has the white tiles (look pretty similiar I think) in her bathroom and they feel very stark and cold, but she doesn't have any border or insert.

The layout of my real kitchen is in a sample picture in one of the comments, but the door is not shown. The pantry door is on the same side as the stove on the very right side of the top picture. The color choice I have for the door is only white.

I still like the shaker...cleaner lines. The raised feel a bit more dated and shaker really never goes out of style. I think the doors' sytle has to be the same throughout the house, but not match up to cupboards.

Thanks Maureen. So, seems like white with white bathtub is a safe choice. I am leaning towards cream in the other bathroom. Hope it will look okay.

White with the bath tub, cream in the one with shower only. I posted a comment on the kitchen thread about the floor. The color is fine. Darker might be more elegant. On the other hand, it shows dust more. I'm building, and for the new house am planning on a color similar to the floor you're currently thinking of--but I might go darker myself.

So, I am doing white with white bath tub. I know you said cream with the shower - Do you clearly like it more than the white?

I like neither, white shower wall tile has too much pattern and cream is a bit too dark. Both are too bold for my taste. I only like the crema marfil marble - that one is subtle in color and design.

The wood sample has slightly more color than shown in the picture, but I have time to decide on the floor and I am not stuck to this wood color. Only need to decide shower wall color and sink counter top color for now.

Just wondering if the builder is working on a few homes and you could ask to see a completed bathroom? I wouldn't worry that much, both the beige and white will create much of the same feel in the bathroom. Your wall color and accessories will take over from the tile and whether they were beige or white, I don't think will make a big difference. If they were extreme I would be second guessing, but they will be finde either way. I remember when my sister had an extension built,...so many decisions - even where light switches should go - it can get a bit overwhelming. Good luck.

Thanks Maureen for your input. I saw bathrooms of both types. They both look bold and a bit weird in their own way. So that's why this indecision and help needed to see if others like one more than the other.

So you have a choice between two and you don't like either one? I still think white with the tub and cream with the shower. However white in the shower would be fine too. How shiny is that tile? If it's shiny, go with the white.

Yes stryker, I have a choice between the two wall tiles(cream and white) for three bathrooms(2 upstairs and 1 downstairs) and I don't like either tile too much.

They are both too bold for my taste. White has some streaky pattern all over and the cream is a bit too dark. I like tiles to be a little understated and disappear into the background.

The white and the cream are both shiny or glossy.

Since master bath(upstairs) and the downstair's powder room have cream marble(a different material and a different shade of cream), I thought having a consistent color scheme for all bathrooms may look nicer than some bathrooms being white and some cream. The cream tile for all bathrooms except master bath and powder room, however, is not marble cream but the one shown above.

The marble cream in master bath and powder room is crema marfil and is really beautiful. I like that shade of cream.

If I go all cream, the only exception will be the bathroom with the white bathtub. There, white with white tub does make sense and all others will be some shade of cream. - master bath and powder will be crema marfil marble and the other two walk in showers will be the man made cream tile. Both pictures of creams are shown in my first post.

So that's the strongest point for cream color, to give consistency to match with master bath and powder room.

Strongest point for white color is that it lightens things up and is more versatile. However, I may have a bit of conflict having two colors in the house and also a conflict between the downstairs bathroom (if I choose white - I have the same choice in the downstairs bathroom too) right next to powder room(cream marble). Also, it seems to me that more people like white more than cream, so it may be a safer choice - though I am not sure.

Hope what I am saying makes sense. I have attached the floor plan because it explains better what I am trying to say.

Don't worry about the color of your bathrooms matching. Besides the crema marfil and the other cream aren't the same anyway. If it can't match, make it different!

I don't know why, exactly, but there is something about the cream tile being shiny that just makes it look cheap, whereas the white gets away with it. So, white everywhere that you can't have crema marfil is my recommendation.

I see what you mean about the pattern in the white tile. I kind of like it, but I understand how you could feel it is too bold. You see how they lay it so the streaks are all running the same direction? Ask them to do it that way. If the streaks are going every different way it will be even busier and it will drive you crazy.

Thanks stryker for all your suggestions and help. Streaks are all in the same direction, I think, I will go and have another look today to make sure. I will also look more closely how shiny cream is, and how close it is to crema marfil.

We had the same white tile in 2 bathrooms in the last home we owned. We chose it as an economical alternative to marble in a standard tub surround and a large stand alone shower in the master bath. Like was previously stated make sure the streaks are all going the same direction when set. This tile will fade into the wall more than you would think. Paint color and bath accessories will be easy to change out as opposed to that cream tile choice.

Doing a house as large as the plan you shared is mind boggling. It is almost a blessing that your builder has only a few selections to choose from. We built with a custom builder with a house that large back in 2000. Luckily his wife was an interior designer and helped us with most all of our selections. Upon retirement, we sold that large home and moved back into town and have just recently "completely" remodeled a smaller 1960's ranch. It has been a full year of constant decisions and takes lots of your time.
