Help with my Living room eyesore

This cutout is between my living room and my office. There are a pair white shutters that cover the opening. In my office I covered up the cut out by putting my desk with the shelf in front of it. I need suggestions on how to make it less noticeable in my living room. I will be changing the wall color and will be replacing the ceiling fan. I'm considering painting the doors and trim of the cut out with the same color as the wall.

Do the shutters need to be there? I'd get rid of them and just have an open window. If you have some money to throw at it, you could get rid of the window altogether and make it a solid wall, or make it a half wall/loft type room. Orrrrr, what might be cool, is if you change it out for a wall of windows with a more contemporary style (ie. Ditch the half circle). But if you're not wanting to spend much money, I'd just lose the shutters.

I think painting it the same color as the wall is a good idea. But did you think about a planter box with some kind of ivy. Embrace the unique feature of your house.

I assume your office is on the second story level and living room is on main level? Depending on how private you want your office to be from sound or visibility. I would recommend removing the window and possibly making the window opening larger so you have a knee wall or railing and banister that opens up the office to your living room similar to what we did in a home remodel last year completely opened hallway and a loft office up to look down on living room foyer and dinning room. Hopefully I was helpfully or sparked some ideas good luck please post pictures after completed

I think that would look great. Depending on of that window is centered on the wall. If it's possible to run electrical on both sides of window there is a large selection of light fixtures that you could match to iron that would draw attention away from window possibly.

Also depending on home decore you overlay 1/2" plywood over window and 6 inches past it on to face of the wall and install a reclaimed wood accent wall and just make the window hidden

I agree, I think the window is sticking out and not showing as well as it could. Either go all the way and make it more of a focal point or get rid of it. As Steel Construction has suggested, opening it up looks great from the photo of their last years remodel, as long as noise is not going to be an issue.

Not being privy to the other side of this window makes it hard to make sound advice.

Painting it the same as the wall may help but it's proportions are all off. I suggest opening it to a full length french door and adding a Juliette balcony.

Since you have it closed off from the office side, I suggest having a very large piece of art made that is proportional to the wall that you can hang in front of the window and completely hide it.
