Do you remember the size of your crown molding? It looks like 2 pieces. We will be doing the same thing for the crown and trying to figure out the size so I know if we need to buy 42" or maybe even 40" wall cabinets.
The distance between your counter and wall cabinets also looks slightly higher than 18" Wondering if we can raise ours by no more than 1"

Thank you for the nice comments. I am so happy to have more storage. The island makes such a difference. The distance between the cabinets and counter is 18". (It used to be about 16 and I couldn't fit the stand mixer under it. And yes, the crown molding is 2 pieces.

I really have to stop clicking on these kitchen makeovers. They all end up with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, just like every new kitchen in the last 25 years.

Love your makeover! Is your countertop Jet Mist granite? I have it on my beverage bar and it's really attractive! Great for an area where you serve coffee and red wine.

I love it! I am just finishing updating my 1940's kitchen and it is very similar to your layout and materials. We used soapstone which looks close to Jet Mist and a subway marble backsplash with the same coloring as your backsplash. The look of everything goes great with the age of our homes.

Thanks for your positive feedback. The counter is honed Jet Mist granite. I had originally wanted black. I had poured over many discussions on this site about honed vs polished, black vs light. I finally settled on the Jet Mist. It has some 'movement' but not drastic. I love it, and it looks a bit like soapstone. The first night, I spilled soup and there was an oil smudge I couldn't get out. I panicked and called the Granite Guy. He came right over, cleaned it and then put another coat of sealer. He said with a natural stone that you really aren't sure how much sealer it will need. After that, no problem. He told me to use Windex Multi-surface with Vinegar to clean it and it's been fine. Regarding the floor, it was actually an inexpensive laminate that looked like ceramic tile. I didn't do the demo on that. My husband and sons did the removal of the cabinets and cupboards to save us some $$. The before picture really does the cabinets more justice than they deserve. They were falling apart and we had a big, cavernous cabinet in the corner where everything got lost. We got one of those pull-out cabinets for the corner which is much better on my back.

oh, and the cabinets are Medallion in White Chocolate

I love the new kitchen! The only thing I would have done differently is to install a slide- in induction range, as slide in ranges have a more fitted look to them. But I realize expense was a consideration, and induction ranges are considerably more expensive than the radiant element electric ranges. I'll bet you were thrilled to pull out those ugly old pine cabinets.
