uneven front door columns. sconce placement?

Our front door is flaked by two columns one is 12" wide and attached to the house, the other is 24" wide and free standing. We are trying to figure out the correct sconce placement:

- center each sconce on its respective column.?
or
- place each sconce equal distance from the edge of the door?
