what to use to shield heat on a concrete fireplace

Hello everyone! I have a concrete fireplace with a TV above it similar to this one from Houzz. I'm trying to figure out what kind of heat shield I should put in in order to protect the TV from rolling heat that will come out of the fireplace. Does anyone have any ideas? Do I even need one? Thanks!

Unless you never use the fireplace, you need to do something. An 8-10" mantle would help quite a bit. Also if you recess the TV the heat problem is mitigated.

build a fire, then put a thermometer up by the tv to see how hot it gets..... if it's above the max operating temp of your tv (look up on web) then you may want to add mantle

thanks for the advice! The TV and fireplace are already built and it's not recessed so I will probably have to do a mantle. Has anyone ever heard of an insert they can cut and place inside their fireplace to come out 8 - 10 inches? I'm trying to be as minimal as possible. Thanks!

I don't understand what the insert ooncept is or what it accomplishes.

Hmm, hard to explain. if a piece of metal was screwed to the top of the fireplace and jetting out 8" would the heat stay far enough away from the tv? Just a thought. I'm open to other options.

You could always bump out the fireplace about 6" into the room across the entire cement wall. But this will be expensive. I would it as is and minimalize the shiny stuff around the fireplace. I think a mantle will help the TV and the look of the fireplace.
