What Color works with the Natural Wood Trim in my Bedroom?

We are going to paint our master and I'm having color choice issues. The trim is going to stay natural, the headboard and other furniture will be white wood, and the accents (bedding, rug) are still up in the air. Maybe a light green? The color now is way too dark for me. I love light greys and grey/blues, but I feel like the whole house is going to end up that color if I don't watch out! The bedroom has a 1/2 wall that connects it to a small office, which will be the same color. Let me know your thoughts.

Okay let me put in a defense of the versatility of gray (even though with your beautiful woodwork I might be tempted to go with a cream in this room to make the wood pop). There are SO many different grays--khaki grays, beige grays, taupe grays, blue grays, green grays, etc. My whole downstairs is painted in various shades of these different variations on gray so that some rooms look greener or bluer or browner, but all are in similarly soft gray tones. I think it looks beautiful (though I'm probably biased). And then there are all those wonderful darker grays to play with. You could do a whole house in variations on gray and have each room look very different. So if that is a color you love and that goes well with your furniture and style, don't be afraid to repeat it with variations. That can be a great look.

Silver Satin by Benjamin Moore is a beautiful WARM gray...looks good with cream or white. Seems pale but changes with the light, always beautiful, peaceful color. If your room is dark this is a great color for a north facing room because of its warmth...looks good in all light. It would be gorgeous with your brick and natural wood. Get a quart and try it out! Let us know what you do.

Definitely look to your brick for inspiration, maybe go a grey that matches your mortar on the window walls and do accent walls of a terracotta.

Great suggestions that i agree with.
For kicks, I'm going to suggest a different direction. How about a color that blends with your woodwork. Your walls are interrupted by 2 single and one set of three windows in the bedroom and two single windows and a wall of builtins in the office. Blending your wall color will be the room a cohesive look, your white furniture will stand out beautifully because the eye is not otherwise being pulled elsewhere. Your fireplace will stand out more too. This will leave you open to more options for bedding, rugs and accessories. Those will make the room so don't fear that blending walls and wood work might be dull.

I can't tell all the undertones of your woods so take my color suggestion as a starting point and refine it. Arizona Tan 2162-50

Chroma, do you have a particular paint color in mind? Interesting concept worth exploring. What do you see for her ceiling? This could be fun to explore with color distribution, etc.

I'm looking at the amber tones in your floor and bookshelves which would look great with an olive/gray. My favorite olive with gray undertones is Clarksville Gray HC-102 by Benjamin Moore. Would also look fine with the bricks. Hope that helps. Charmean Neithart

A very pale blue more on the aqua side, would be a split compliment to the wood tone of your trim and the reds in your brick. Looks sharp with white and gives you a wide range of hues for bedding and other accessories.

Aubergine would be terrific for the back of the book cases but I would limit it to one horizontal band. I wouldn't want to see more than that. The sixth from the top; the shelf that fall middle of the lower window sash. Something that runs nearly to black like Carbon Copy 2117-10. White pottery would look amazing against that would would remain on the same visual plane as the white furniture.

Our master bedroom is very similar. We have fir floors and big fir windows. We used bm 313-4 Earthy Cane which is a much warmer green than you have right now. It goes very nicely with the fir and outdoor colors. Recently, in our kitchen/living room we departed from warm colors and decided to do dove white horizontal paneling like in these inspiration pictures. I love this look as well (fir with white paneling).

BM Stone Hearth - warm grey beige (used to have another name)
BM Putnam Ivory - warm beige
BM French Toast - warm orange undertone. it can look almost golden in some light

palest of yellow dipped in honey color to go with your wood--definitely a warm color but not too dark against your white ceiling or do all in this honey pale yellow color

If you will be purchasing new bedding...I'd wait on the wall color. (you could take the sham w/you to the paint-store) Whatever color you decide,use a few shades lighter (or even same if not a dense color)for the ceiling. (I know, I am one of those white ceiling haters!)
If you are using a white headboard, and accessories, consider white crown moulding. It would look wonderful! It'd make the color of the room *POP*!

A gray-green is beautiful against the wood and brick tones present in your room. It will create a soothing blend, but at the same time, make the brick and wood stand on their own. The key is to go with a more blue-green than yellow base. White will also stand out against it and look lovely. A gray-green is very neutral, too, so unless you are trying to EXACTLY match the color, you can put nearly any other color with it.

i think warm earth tones (think Santa Fe, or an asian look) would be beautiful, warm, inviting and romantic in a bedroom. I love Benjamin Moore's Roxbury Caramel. it looks terrific with oranges, reds, gold, brown, there's so much you can do with that palette and keep the wood exposed.
