I would recommend a dark color engineered wood floor. You can lay it right over the existing hard surfaces so you would only have to tear up the carpet, if you are wanting to change flooring in that area as well. Engineered floors have a long life span and hardwood flooring is the only floor covering that increases the value of your home. A dark color would really warm up the space and set off the other wood work in the cabinetry and ceiling.
