One idea to keep concealed appls behind doors safely (mainly fire if an appl is left on) is to add a switch that would disable the outlet much like the GFCI (which opens the circuit) while the door or tambour is closed, possibly a switch attached to the door hinge or one that is light activated. The only drawback may be losing the ability to program the appliance, like a coffee maker.

Disabling the outlet is smarter to reduce power drain, as well as safety concern, powersurge killing appliances as well.
