For continuity, especially on all the main doors, most people keep door knobs and levers in same finishes throughout that house.

Wyland Interior Center, I understand that idea but brushed nickel is way more modern than I want throughout my house but it looks great in the kitchen. What would you suggest in that instance? How do you feel about mixing knobs and levers? Split finish in bathrooms? Thanks for commenting - I so appreciate everyone's insight on here!

It's your new house so do what pleases you! Typically on door hardware people keep it consistent. Although I do have brushed nickel knobs on the exterior doors and brushed nickel levers on the interior doors. It doesn't seem to jump out at me. I am not sure I would want to mix polished brass with brushed nickel, however.

In bathrooms people mix finishes. Personally I like it consistent but lots of other people don't.

The only argument that I can see regarding a split finish door handles.... Does it matter to you, when you have the door open looking in you will see the polish brass handle with the polished nickel? Some people would be bothered by this and others would not be. It is your personal preference. If that bothers you, then consider going with plumbing fixtures, light fixture and cabinet hardware with maybe a two finished piece. * See photo examples below of some different styles.

In terms of the polished, satin or brushed nickel hardware looking too modern, it really has to do more with the style of the handle than the finish. I'm seeing more and more reproduction or replica of the older style door hardware starting to be manufactured in nickel finishes.
