Help with my basement

I recently purchased a custom couch. While I measured for the space, I think it's very large now that I see it in the room. We must live with it as it cannot go back. Looking on the positive side it allows for lots of seating:) My questions are around what colour rug, and shape/type of coffee table I should get. Also my husband wants to put a console table behind the couch. The couch is 111" The console is 52". I have a closet behind the couch as well, and not sure if it will fee too "tight" if we do this? I want to pull everything together as my basement is a very odd shape and we are working with some ugly floors. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would put the console table behind the part of the sofa in the picture that has the throw on it. That will help balance out the space. Get a rug to anchor the space and a glass top coffee table so it floats in the room and doesn't make the space feel crowded. If this is where you gather with friends and family you will be glad to have all that seating. Nice looking sofa.

Just a side note: The brown bookshelf is leaving and the tan wall still needs painting:) The printer must stay (I work from home).

Is the longest portion of the sectional the one that is facing the tv?

Both sides of the sectional are the same length.

Thanks! I don't think it will work on that side of the sofa because of the supporting beam,- that darn beam really limits us with furniture placement. Having said that, I will measure and see. Any ideas on what colour of rug? Should I stick with a neutral (cream or sisal) or pick up another colour?

I think I see an art piece in n the wall in autumn colors. If you like that palette then go with those colors. Take a good photo of the piece with you when you shop for the rug. Add some of textured pillows in those colors too.

I would rotate your sectional up against the wall and closer to your TV. This will allow ample room for your console and closet door to open and for a lounge chair.

@ Act one, your suggestion was how I originally planned the room! However after getting the sofa in the space, I felt that the sofa stuck out too much in front of the TV. It comes out from the wall to about 1/2 way through the television. It looked awkward.... however it does open up the room. Do you think it matters to center the couch with the television? . A chair might just balance that out though....I love this coffee table.

Could you post a floor plan of the entire room? Maybe there's another way this entire work/tv sitting area arrangement can be done.

Your husbands going to hate me, but tv is mounted in the wrong place. I had a similar basement dilemma and realized cutting the room in half ruins the space. Can't see the near wall but it looks like it's the stairs. I would spin the couch to open the center of the room and mount the tv on the stair wall.

@Joelavin100, first off thank you for responding! Unfortunately the stair wall is too short. It dips back about 1/2 of the way along the staircase ( there is a small storage closet under the stairs) and then as the wall continues it is met by a door to a washroom. It really is an oddly shaped room.

The sofa really looks swished right up against the wall, and I would hate to sit facing the wall, but i see you've already tried it flipped and its too wide. Have you tried it in a V facing the tv?
