How to mix dark plants with lighter colored ones?

I love traditional gardens with magnolias and anything dark purple but I also love aeoniums, euphorbia agave attenuate, and other bright green plants that I see in more modern looking gardens. So I feel like I'm stuck with having to choose one style or the other

I've started terracing my back yard and I would love to be able to blend bright plants with dark ones but generally keep them all within the green/purple colors.

Has anyone offer help or examples of blending dark leafy plants with sculptural bright succulents? The plants would be terraced up a hill.

Depending on the overall look you like, repetition is key for balancing throughout the yard.

You have to be thinking of the conditions you have to choose plants I have what is fondly called a jungle and I basically plant stuff according to the wants of the plants. As a rule dark leafy plants like shade and succulents like lots of light and drier soil . Go to a good garden center in your area and they will be a huge help.
