Heres a couple more views... Also my wife is stating to hate the yellow on the walls. She wants it to feel more warm! So we are Kunis.

The black beams are too high contrast with the yellow right now. One way to tame the yellow is to hang artwork on the walls, which preferably would be larger pieces. Cream colored or plain linen draperies would also soften the yellow color and would provide warmth and sound dampening to the area, which would be important because it is one large area. You could also use a light colored rug to tie the kitchen cabinet color to the living room sitting area .

It is the contrast between the walls and the ceiling that is off putting. I am sure you do not want to paint again, but I suggest the walls and the ceiling be the same color...you can stay yellow, but more of a "mellow yellow".

Thanks for the comments.....we actually are open to repaining the walls and possibly the ceiling. The beams are a dark brown stain which looks black in pictures. The house is about 1,200 square feet and the living room furniture is also a problem. All too big and bulky! Wish thre was more compact type furniture....We didn't think we would get replies so quickly but my wife had to work this evening but I'm sure she's going to be happy to read the comments tonight.

If you wanted to stay with a yellow, I would go with a light yellow, almost like a cream color. Another option might be a light green. I would consider white wood blinds for the window and white wood shutters for the doorwall.

Instead of painting out the yellow why not do a feature wall in a burnt orange

If you're staying with the yellow, paint the beams and front door white too. Maybe put a rectangular rustic dining table up against the wall where the sofa and chair are now. The existing dining chairs are great. Get colorful shiny stools for the breakfast bar. Float the sofa facing the tv. Put the chairs on either side by the fireplace. Get a big area rug with just a little yellow in it and several other cooler colors you like. Get curtains with colors on stools and in rug - not yellow. I'd go subtle on the curtains, but they could be a bolder graphic pattern too. Get patterned pillows for the sofa. Tone down the yellow with green accents. Looks like you need a coffee table too. Maybe a rustic one that compliments the new dining table. The round dining table isn't working for you. Don't be afraid to mix it up. It'll look great when its done. Right now theres too much dark floor/beams and yellow showing. Good luck!

The space looks great. What is to the left of the fireplace? Can you give us a shot of the seating?

I'm not usually a huge yellow fan, but I like yours. I'd probably go a little less saturated on the yellow, then paint the ceiling the same color cut 50%. I'd keep the beams stained.

Liking the suggestions! the pictures do show the yellow really bright but it's a couple tones softer. Although I personally do like the soft yellow! Great stuff! She will be exited to see all your suggestios!

I'm not sure if this also helps but here is the hallway that connects to the living room and entry. Keep in mind some of the stuff like sofas and table and chairs are things we already have but are looking for suggestions on layout and small type couches. The existing are ver bulky looking. I like your color. You may want to add a small amount of the yellow to off-white ceiling paint & you will like it better. When you get your Christmas tree down you will be able to move things around a little more. Keep your bar stools in when not in use. Push your table a little more toward the window. Buy grommet draperies & hang them on your slider close to the ceiling carry down to the floor. Hang the same length on the window. Use off-white. Buy 5 pillows, 3 on the sofa, one in each chair in a lime, coral & brown. Buy an area rug that will fit under the front legs of the sofa & include front feet of each chair. Place chairs on either end of the sofa facing each other.

To the left of the TV is a built-in entertainment center. You have a picture ideas for window treatments? Keep in mind the there is no trim around windows, it's all bullnose plaster. Also the kitchen window would need something aswell. We were thinking of a an electric shade? Some simple and clean? I'm personally really good with the construction part of things but with the decorating, not so good. And my wice has a little hard time visualizing. Maybe I should have taken a decorating class. :)

Beautiful space and kitchen. Nice job! I think your dining set look a little squished next to your counter, but you have a lot of empty space in front of the fireplace, and the seating area seems a little far removed. I would try moving the dining space to where your tree is and move the couch and chairs up closer to the fireplace. Just a thought.
