That seems to be a pretty good ratio of brick and stone but I will tell you that my husband works for a local builder and they just completed a two story with lots of stone and Brick on the front and no one will buy it because the colors the designer chose were so close for the brick and stone that it looks really tacky. They are having to now paint the brick. I would just suggest that you make sure the brick and stone complement one another nicely with some contrast. I have stacked stone with my b&b an love it, your house is very nice, best of luck.

PPF, I like your sketch, you think I'd have to add a roof line at the transition from vertical to horizontal siding? Also, you think it would look ok if I carry the stone line around the house with brick as it would be too expensive with stone all the way around. Thanks!

I will post a pic shortly of the one that we don't like. It's the colors. The designer is pushing to stick with it but I think it's just awful. Taste is a personal thing, it doesn't mean in all cases that it's wrong but in this case, I truly think it's just wrong and apparently, everyone who has looked at the house shares my opinion. I am not a designer, but decorating has been a "hobby" of mine since I was a teenager. I am kind of obsessed with it. :) so I do not offer my opinions as a Professional. I just get a little weary of walking into homes and seeing the same thing over and over, but that's just me.

Don't mix brick and stone. It's like blue eyeshadow with purple eyeliner.

I'd go with PPF's design. However, if you live in a termite area beware of doing a bottom ledge with stone over lumber. These areas are also notorious for rot.

I'm in southern Canada so termites are not an issue. However with PPF's design, I think I'd run into an issue with the sides of home and the lines running to the front door. I'm kind of leaning now towards doing just stone on the front right entire face. Then brick the rest with just board and batten on the top left triangle peak. What do you think? thanks

Your inspiration picture would look better with Hardie siding where the brick is placed.

I would not go extreme with the front *facade if you are just putting board and batten around the sides, it will look cheap.

well the sides are going to be ~1/3 brick and board and batten over it. stone around entire home is just too expensive.

I know what you mean... did not mean to be so harsh about it. sorry. Just try to tastefully balance it, you will have a beautiful home there.

The above brick and stone house works because the colors are very different, and the materials are not mixed. The stone wraps around the base only and does not rise up to cover random walls.
