Curtains for living room/dinning room combo

I've been in my new home for a few months now and currently I am working on decorating the living room/dinning room combo. My dilemma is that I am unsure if the curtains should remain the same since it's an open flow. I have two sets of curtains, one that's cream with gold design (for the livingroom) and the other one that matches the living room ottoman (for the dinning room). My favorite one is the cream with gold. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Btw, curtains aren't up yet. I have to buy the rods. Also, my dinning table hasn't been delivered.

Your art is too big for that wall, and two of the same canvas and in the same colors as the rest of the furnishings is boring. It's a difficult wall for art since the sofa isn't centered. I would look for a single horizontal canvas and try aligning it with the right arm of the sofa.

I think you are trying to "match" too much...think about texture and layering now rather than matching patterns and colours. Your space has a lot of warm which needs to be balanced now with some fresh to cut that warmth and allow the room to breathe..

Like your style, curtains too. Show when your table is available. Maybe add one other color that pops.

A good place to start are the cushions...with some fun textures and pops of fresh clear colours, a long haired white faux fur or lamb skin. You could layer an area rug under the ottoman 8x10 in a similar pattern to the gold and cream curtain.

I would think if you stay with those window treatments put the ottomon fabric in the same room as the ottomon. Your pics are nice. Maybe you can move them and add a more colorful piece of artwork as suggested or keep them there but add art somewhere else. The three mirrors need to be closer to each other.

Any thoughts on paint color? Builder said I have to wait a year but I wanted to get some ideas together so it won't be as stressful when I purchase the paint.

Use the cream and gold curtains for all the windows. Return the matchy-matchy ones.

Paint color comes last, after everything else is chosen. I can't imagine why you have to wait a year.

IMO I wouldn't put 2 of the same prints in a room on such large pieces as drapery and the ottoman...it will look contrived, like you are trying too hard. Loosen up the space, add some navy print and gold pillows , mix in a sheepskin in white, a faux animal print and you have a much younger feel. Add a tray to your ottoman, a pretty box, a stack of books...maybe a small vase and floral.

Your space is on the way to being a very nice room. I have three things to add:
1. Listen to GroverAxel.
2. Politely ignore your MIL.
3. Use the cream and gold curtains but make sure they are long enough to mount above the windows and still break on the floor.

@Groveraxle The house is new and it needs to settle. There will be nails and cracks. That's why they say to wait a year. They'll come in to fix everything.

The matchy curtains are out of the picture. I am staying with the cream and gold ones.

I wasn't sure if I should center the sofa on the entire wall with the window or center it on the wall space only. Currently it's centered with the entire wall.

@Riverside design I am getting rid of curtain that matches the ottoman. As far as the tray for the ottoman, that was on my list. I am just trying to get the big things out the way first. I am looking into other pillows and a rug as you suggested.

Thank you @Carol S. The curtains are 84" so I believe I'll be able to mount the rod just about the window and still have it touch the floor.

What fun! I would make window boxes/cornices for the tops of the windows and cover them with the drape fabric. Too much drape can make the room dated.

Tania, the teal and gold art is lovely and will add some color that the space needs. Before you buy it, tape a paper template on the wall. For a single square piece over the uncentered sofa, I suggest trying it in the center of the space between the edge of the curtain and the right arm of the sofa. Like so:
