We chose the 600sq foot Seattle home because art is so good for the soul !

Well this is another interesting poll. Since I love imaging living in other spaces and small spaces are so necessary.

Tiny Fold-Out Apartment in Barcelona - 260 sq ft - Very small. For me I'd be concerned about folding up the bed and is it easy on the back? I could see it for a long term rental for adults and students studying in Spain. That would be great!

Nautilus Studio in Seattle - 600 sq ft - Pretty, but I wouldn't get out of bed.

Tiny House in Portland - 128 sq ft - I've seen tiny houses before and love the concept of spending a period of time reducing personal footprint. I know I'm too old for that.

Unfolding Apartment in NYC - 400 sq ft - This I know I'd love to own or rent to live in. Although the couch space is not clearly visible, I could see myself sitting there to read or watch TV and the bed doesn’t have to be put up until I would have guests. Great space for any metro area!

Hobbit House in Pennsylvania - 600 sq ft - Cute, but only if I were the owner of the estate that this was on or if owners treated me like a very special hobbit.

Sustainable Shack in Sao Palo - 914 sq ft - Looks interesting, but I don't think I could be sustained.

Hobbit House is running away with it at the moment. :)

This was so hard! I LOVE nautilus but I voted for hobbit. I love the cluttered, eclectic, steampunk of the nautilus, but the nature and fantasy of hobbit wins me. I would like to live primarily in hobbit and have steampunk as a retreat for short stays in the city.

Voted the hobbit Looks like a great get away from it all place for the weekends.
Although this sounds nuts wish that little cabin on wheels was in our sons woods when we go to visit next month.. looks so cute .Wonder what the inside is like. Is there a matching out house haha

Nautilus interior and Hobbit House exterior hands down! The Nautilus feels old world bohemian....really old world like traveling around Europe in a horse drawn wagon to the next theatrical event old. Both charming, timeless and very appealing.

I wonder if people actually had to live in these spaces for a while they might change their minds. The Hobbitt is all about the exterior- only 2 photos of the inside- and the Nautilus is positively claustophopic. But I guess that's why we (thankfully) have choices!

I voted for the unfolding NYC apartment. Although small, it's organization of space is well thought out. Actually has storage space!

The Hobbit house tucked away in the forest got my vote because it was enchanting and inviting at the same time. Now, I admit I couldn't 'live' there (where would I put all my stuff) but it would be nice for a weekend retreat. I could lounge with another Martha Grimes novel while sipping a cold and refreshing drink and munching on crackers and cheese. Yum.

I loved the colorful interior. I would love to live there and Lay in that big ole nest!

The hobbit house is connected to the surroundings. It belongs in there. Isn't that nice?. It is my favorite.The shack in Sao Paulo has also beautiful ideas.

What I love about the Nautilus studio in Seattle is its resolute individuality. It is so fantastic to see someone doing something creative and uniquely personal with their living space. Anyone can make bland, tasteful, derivative interiors, but this place shows such creativity and vision. I love that it so clearly expresses the owner's personality.

Like them all because they all look high quality/well built. I think most people are over the "bigger is better" attitude. Quality over quantity, I love it!

I really like the Barcelona place, but I voted for the NYC place. It's actually boring compared to the rest of the houses in the poll, but I had to go with what could be the most easily copied and the most affordable. And who says you can't add your own personal touches? I could go on about all of them. They all prove that imagination isn't dead. :)

Imagine coming home after a long day of work to Hobbit House. Did they use stone from the property? After living in the house awhile I'd give it a new name and hang it above my stone gate, something whimsical I think. Lovely, reminds me of the Mushroom Houses in Petosky, Michigan. Fine job.

The detail in the Hobbit house is amazing...its so special! I'm going to have to re-read the Hobbit this summer. What an amazing house.

Hobbit house looks cute but need to see actual interior photos to say. Unfolding appt in NY the blue is too contrasting in such a small place. That color should be in small doses rather that such a huge factor. makes it seem smaller. Nautilus studio is too cluttered and it also makes it look much smaller. The sustainable house is the best laid out and it gets my vote.

The Barcelona house is great. Very well planned. The apartment in NY will be better with neutral colors since the space is reduced.

Agree, neutral colors would be more spacious and hits of the bright blue more interesting.

I actually disagree that neutral colors make a space seem larger. I have no idea where that myth came from, but it is such a decorating cliche.

A tiny space is a tiny space. You can have a tiny bland space, or a tiny space with some personality. Painting small spaces a rich luminous color actually has the opposite effect. Particularly if it is offset against lighter colors. Like in a drawing or painting, tonal contrasts give a sense of depth and volume.

Actually too much stark contrast shrinks the room. I agree it doesnt need to be neutral but the color chosen in the photo makes the room appear even smaller. Its not a cliche if you study color and harmony and the effects of space. Your color needs to have harmony in the space not visual contrast. No one said it needed to be bland, you could add much visual interest in textures and surfaces as well. you could use that color as an accent but the stark difference is too much in such a tiny space. Artwork would enhance the room and of course you would have tonal contrast you can achieve depth by other means than color.

I can imagine how liveble and functional the Barcelona foldout would be, yet it is sophisticated and the windows give it a spaciousness that you wouldn't expect in 260 s.f., so it gets my vote. The Hobbit house came in #2, but it is a larger scale of "small", so the two are hard to compare. I love the Hobbit house on it's own merits as a charming small cottage with and equally charming cottage garden.

I agree with Quirk Street neutral colors don't always make a space seem larger. I have a small house with small rooms. I try to find colors that make the rooms feel bright and airy. Our living room is painted Behr Aqua Smoke and when people come into the space they always comment on how big the room looks.

The first one gets my vote as even though small , still gives the feeling of normalcy.
