Hello, thank you for sharing the counter top. Would you mind telling us if this is a good type of material to use on counter tops? My understanding is that marble is not good to use. Help, :-) I am so confused. I LOVE the look of marble!

Thanks for the great question slmp45! When choosing marble for a countertop surface, there are a few things you want to consider. Ultimately, the final decision is totally up to the consumer!
Marble Countertops are chosen for their classic and timeless beauty-they offer a "white, brightness" that may be very difficult to find in a granite or soapstone. Marble also has a natural "cooling" quality. If you work directly on your countertop surface much of the time, marble does not conduct heat very well and therefore could make projects like working with pastry directly on the surface quite easy and fun! It is also very widely available and at a more inexpensive rate than other natural stones. Most stone yards will have a selection of marbles to choose from.
Unfortunately, marble countertops are prone to scratching and staining, but this would be something to keep under consideration when you are deciding between countertop selections.
However, a "honed" finish might help hide any scratches that are possible to happen. A "honed" finish provides a more matte, less shiny finish that comes from abrading the stone.
