Going to remodel kitchen, need color advice

We are going to re-do kitchen which includes tearing down the wall between the living room etc... What I need help with is deciding on the colors of floor, cabinets and counter top/back splash. We love the more modern look and really want to start with expresso /dark brown cabinets. With dark cabinets, that means a lighter floor and counter top??

Its a bit to grey/bland, looking to get slightly more contrast, we like the cabinets.

We have stainless steel appliances and would like to incorporate that into the new design. We will also have a island. Just need help with basic color combo's/rules.

Usually you would have the same floor in the kitchen as the rest of the house so that might drive the cabinet colour.as for the counter and backsplash the backsplash is usually something I decide later in the process as for counter you need to know what the floor and cabinets are going to be so I guess tell us what the floor will be and we will take from there

Thank you! We are thinking the floor to be a herring bone tile pattern, like a 16"x 8 tile or near that size, we have dark brown hardwood floor in the adjoining living room that we would need to make a decision to tear out and do all tile or keep the hardwood floor and have a threshold transition to tile. Tile color we want semi-dark grey tile, like blue stone or how you see some homes with the blue-grey color with a darker grout.

That might look good with dark expresso color cabinets.

Any tips would be appreciated!

I would keep the floor tile much larger format to cut down on grout lines and also keep it from being too busy. I think the dark blue stone floor and dark cabinets will make for a very dark space.
Your inspiration pic I think is nice except for the backsplash which I find does not connect to anything in the space it is too bluish. I think the counter could be something like in the pic with maybe this back splash

Thank you ! I agree we don't want it too dark and that's a good idea to keep bigger format tile.

I really like that counter and backsplash combo.
