Does the vinyl strip match the windows? Does it look like an extension of the window? If so, then I don't see a problem with painting the trim a contrasting colour. Do not paint the vinyl.

The vinyl is the trim around the glass(window) then there is the big wood molding. Why would you not paint the vinyl?

The vinyl is not meant to be painted with standard house paint. There are some specialty coatings that are used by window manufacturers to add colour but they are not available to consumers. You'd never be able to match the green trim colour anyway. If you try to paint the vinyl, you'll end up with a mess and you'll never be able to clean it up to get back to the white again. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

When I replaced the windows in my house, I specified wood interiors on my windows with vinyl exteriors. This has meant that I could paint the interior window and the window trim with my trim paint for a historic look which I love. I don't know if you want to go to the expense of new windows, but this is the only way you'll get the look you want with matching windows to your trim.

These are pictures of my windows. I moved into this house two years ago and the owner had just recently replaced the windows, so unfortunately I did not get go pick the color or material used. There are 5 on each side of the room. The vinyl is the whiter strip around the window itself. Do you think it would look bad if I painted the big molding the green that I want to and that strip stays white? I read where you can paint vinyl it you prep it first. Sand it and then use a vinyl primer, then it will take the paint. If you know that is incorrect information, please let me know. They are beautiful windows and a huge part of my room and I wouldn't want to make a mistake. Thanks for all your information so far.

Don't paint the vinyl. It will begin to peel and look terrible. The whiteness of the vinyl is a non issue nobody will notice.
