Same color and same hardware would help accomplish that. However matched furniture isn't as interesting as eclectic.

My mother frequents this site & has directed me here for advice and I appreciate your responses. We have just repainted the all white bedroom to a sage-y green and have purchased a neutral and white textured border to place at the top of the room. Our dressers are 3 of the same height (5 drawers each). One is painted white (solid wood construction, body style is like unto French Provencal from the '60's), one is poorly painted (or could be stain over paint) in a dark espresso color (Guessing it was 1990's kids dresser w/ round knobs, solid wood, very rectangular lines), and one is tinted not quite oak but not quite mahogany (cheap and chintzy particle board with pretty marble-esque hardware). Then there's the shorty of the bunch, 3 drawers all natural solid wood (not even a glossy polyurethane coating) oak dresser with inlaid handles (i.e. no hardware to speak of). Just trying to find a way to bring them all together harmoniously. :/

I guess my first question would be do you need all these dressers, can you not put some of the stuff in your closet instead. Maybe use the 3 drawer one as a nightstand. I would paint what you actually need all the same color , same hardware and hope for the best.

We're in a 1922 3 BR 1285 sq ft home. The closets are teeny tiny and full up. Storage is a major issue all over my home. :/ I am thinking your advice on making them the same color & hardware is a good starting place

Have you considered a product called chalk paint?
