Fireplace help please

We are going to have a solid fuel stove in this fireplace something similar to the photo attached.
We can't have a wood mantle /surround nor a limestone and a marble or granite full surround fireplace is proving costly. Would any of you have any alternative suggestions/ thinking outside the box?

I had a multi fuel stove installed Nov 2014. We had the existing decorative fireplace removed. Decided not to have a mantle or surround fitted. So pleased I didn't, the stove sits on a granite hearth which is cut into the chimney breast and it looks fantastic, and very contemporary. Had loads of comments from friends on how good it looks. I also went for a wide but slimline stove which has a large viewing window and a single door. Because the stove is slimline it does not protrude into the room. Its the best purchase I've made in years and totally transformed my lounge. Love it. Hope you enjoy yours.

Slate hearths also look lovely, and are WAY cheaper than granite :)

They are there alright! Thanks a million i think it looks fab- did you just plaster and paint the inside/outside of the breast all the same?

A guy removed my existing fire place and did the installation. It was fire boarded and sealed around where the stove sits. I had a paint mixed at the local dulux centre "slightly off white" diamond hard acrylic eggshell don't used oil based paint. This was painted inside the chimney before the stove was installed I used a small roller 3/4 coats. Front wall is again from the dulux centre Flat white emulsion. The whole look is very plain but if you like the look, dress the walls with tasteful art and a nice vase or two, It works for me.

Personally we would fireboard the chamber, lay a hearth of choice and I would have a beam to set it off, could even tile the back. Full liner and hetas certificate of compliance is a must. Giving you a curve ball idea why not have an inset and be a little different? Two ideas attached.
