I think this rug works, ONLY if you fill up the empty wall. Have you thought about adding a buffet with art work above it or a tall hutch? Right now the rug looks like it's the only thing in the room, but if you fill the space more it will make the room complete and will help tie that rug in.

Yes, I do have plans for artwork and a buffet. We just bought our house and still are going piece by piece as we can so the whole place is very empty. I really like the pictures you sent and it gives me some inspiration. thank you!

I agree with Andrea above. I would concentrate on art for the walls to make your eye see the entire room instead of just focusing on the rug.
