A floor plan would be helpful.

A floor plan would help but I don't think an island will work. 1' from the windows would look tacky. I'm afraid those windows will need to be shorter.

I've seen some kitchens with the counter against the window. Is this similar to what you had in mind?

Your windows slide open left/right correct? If so I'd go with something like "hatetoshop" suggested. 1 ft from the Wall is just wasted space and would look odd.

Is there a possibility of opening up the wall marked A to make the room a little wider? What's the layout of your home? With that lovely view I hope other rooms in your home also share it. If not I would consider reorganizing the layout to make better use of the view look at an alternative spot for the kitchen.

The other problem is you have the opening on the right wall. The cabinets are probably too deep.

I like the look, however our windows crank out. Not sure how we would get to them if counter was against windows. All rooms have the lovely view. We have considered moving kitchen to another location, but trying to keep the cost down. Opening to dining room is on right wall. Door to outside is on left wall. Master bedroom backs to wall A. I appreciate all the suggestions...

You could get a T-shaped design to fit. Something like the one pictured, without the shelves on the end. Have it extend out in the middle. I wouldn't want to cover those beautiful front windows if I could avoid it.

Beautiful view. Could you fit any floor to ceiling storage cabinets/shelving in the corner where the trash can is?

I think if it were my kitchen I would make it just slightly L shaped (using the left hand wall for the short end of the L) and put all the appliances on the L. Then I'd build low storage cabinets below the windows, with tall, thin ones flanking them (if there is room), and use the low cabinets as a window seat. Then if you wanted you could put a small (maybe marble topped?) breakfast table by the window, using the window seat as a banquette. You wouldn't have as much access to the materials stored beneath the window, and you wouldn't have very much counter space, but you'd get the most out of the view, plus some extra storage and could use the table as an extra prep area/island when needed.

Perhaps you could extend the wall out a few feet and put in patio doors. Thus giving enough room for your island.
