Never tried the Magellan series, but, for an unbelievable display of zinnias, try the Benary Giant and Burpeena Series, you won't regret it.

I grew the Magellan last year, and fought black spot like crazy. I had other zinnia, as well, without the problems. However, I was very impressed with the form and color, enough so that I've decided to try again this year, with several experimental (for me) anti-disease treatments in place.

I grew some Magellans. It's a nice border plant, with decent-sized flowers, about 4 inches in diameter, on bushy compact plants about 14 inches tall.

I don't think there is any intentional doctoring of the pictures in reputable seed catalogs. I haven't had any color surprises in recent years. Magellan comes in seven colors, including a pink, which is on the cooler side and definitely not a salmon pink. This picture is in close agreement to our Magellan pinks:

Dreamland's coral is a very similar shade on a plant that might be an inch or two shorter than Magellans and with slightly smaller flowers, that are still large for a dwarf zinnia. Based on the green of the foliage, this picture of Dreamland Coral might have a hint of a yellow caste, almostly certainly unintentional:

Magellan doesn't have a true white, but has a decent ivory:

Dreamland's Ivory Hybrid is much closer to white, but the cool green foliage color in this picture suggests a bluish caste that could exaggerate that whiteness:

Peter Pan used to have a pure white as a separate color, but that is difficult to find now unless you are a commercial grower. Peter Pan had a nice cream, too.

Peter Pan Mix Zinnia

My Magellans were no more disease-prone than my other zinnias, although we had them in a full sun location with good air circulation, and the plants weren't crowded. We also grew Peter Pans and Dreamlands, among others. There are plenty of good border-type and bedding-type zinnias besides Magellan. However, I think Magellan's flowers may be a bit larger than the competition in this class. You might enjoy growing Magellans.
