Any that I have seen have standard French marigold foliage and the typical scent.

Are you looking for those delightful, ferny leafed marigolds with the tiny flowers? Those are signets. I was sent Lemon Gem by mistake when I ordered disco marietta and fell in love with them. Intense marigold fragrance, highly dissected foliage, neat little flowers........look a lot like bidens. The foliage fluffs out over pots and drapes, instead of the stiff artifical typical French marigold habit. I planted them everywhere this year with other sun loving flowers and they make wonderful filler plants.

Well, gee whiz, Calliope! I had written the signets off (have seeds, didn't like them when I used them once), but the way you describe them, well, I might just have to give them another shot! Especially in pots, where I seem to have a HUGE handicap.

I was actually hoping the Mariettas were the typical scented, stiff foliage type...so that got answered...but now I have to FIND another use for the signets, and take them OUT of the trade pile!!! Thanks for the plug!

If I think about it, I'll take a photograph or two of my Lemon Gems to show you why I was so impressed. My husband asked me for some very carefree plants to put down on the road by the mailbox. I sent him down with a flat of QIS purple gomphrena and a flat of Lemon Gems. OMGosh! the marigolds are a big puff of tiny yellow flowers and the gomphrena QIF series is tall enough they are poking up through the ferny marigold foliage and being opposites on the colour wheel, it makes your eyes pop. I really am tired of those cookie cutter plants like the tagetes and African marigolds. Stiff, contrived plants and breeding just makes them look more like plastic posies. But those signets filled out so full, draped over sides of pots, never noticed the temperature zooming up and never needed deadheading. It's a winner for full sun situations.
