Yes. I'd recommend at least a 15 gallon container. You can get by with smaller, but that could make it difficult to keep the plant properly watered. If you can get a really big container, such as a half whiskey barrel, that would be great.

Supporting a plant in a container can be troublesome. Stakes don't hold up well in a loose container soil. A large cage that fits either inside or over and around the container works best.

Agree with JD. I was going to respond to your post in the veggie forum, but then saw it here.

I am an avid tomato grower. I think I like growing them more than eating them and I love eating them ;-)

As Jason noted a large container is preferable so the container can hold sufficient water. A large plant can consume ~2 gallons of water per day. Smaller, compact plants bred for container growing are not as challenging primarily because they require little to no support and don't consume as much water.

I prefer self watering containers like the earthbox or gardener supply tomato success kit (although I just buy the container, not the kit) because they hold extra water in a reservoir. The gardener supply unit holds 4 gallons and the EB 2. This is in addition to the water in the potting mix.

Also, if you are growing tomatos in a container make sure to add a calcium source to the potting mix (dolomitic lime is a common choice). This is to prevent blossom end rot.

Anyway, to get back to what you actually asked, yes you can grow large tomatos in containers. With adequate support and water a monster 10' indeterminate plant is entirely do-able.
