soil mixture for boxes ????

Hi

I don't want to be innundated with messages but I am about ready to make my first pseudo-earthboxes. I tend to have a very brown thumb so this will be interesting.

I got two large storage containers and two smaller bins to fit inside upside down, some quart paint cans (though I think the crab bait jars we find at the beach would work and already have holes in them). I invested in 100 cable ties. Next step is to find the drill. I still need a tarp and since I got the wrong size lids for the storage bins I think duct tape will be my way to keep the tarp for the mulch cover intact.

I found a 2 inch black pipe under the deck that came with a house I can cut to use for watering. Now I wished I had moved all those old vacuum cleaner parts because those rods for extending the hose would have worked well (even an old hose would work I expect).

I am looking at putting in cukes and peas. I have another pot I can convert to selfwatering that I will try a pepper plant in.

I have compost already since we have an "earth machine" that came with the house and we have been feeding it regularly. It was very wet and full of worms when I stirred it up a couple weeks ago.

I have sawdust that comes from the pine cat litter I use. Any one have any ideas about how much of these to mix in with some good potting soil? I need to buy the soil still and that is planned for later today but I expect it will be tomorrow when I put all of this together with soil in it.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
