5 gallons is a good size to consider as close to the lower volume limit.

I would say 5 gallon would be good for the cucumber. I would suggest a 10 gallon for the cherry tomato assuming that its a indeterminate. Utilize the seach box on this forum as there is some great stuff on container soils, fertilizing and watering. good luck.

Thanks for your replies! I bought some 14 gallon totes that should work. I can drill holes in the bottom. But now I want to plant more in them. In the one with the cucumber can I add a few green onions, maybe a jalapeno plant? In the cherry tomato I want to add a few short carrots. I ended up buying 3, only 6 dollars each. I plan to plant a husky cherry, some short carrots and a few green onions for my mom. She has a hard time reaching the ground so I think a container will be nice. Lots of experiments to try.
