Great Container Idea Links

I know I have just put these in some messages I replyed to and a lot of you have seen them already because I found them in here. But I wanted to put them all in one post so any newcomers could find them easily and before they get lost. (It has taken me days at very slow dial-up to read through all these messages!) So if any of you have any other great links that I haven't seen yet please post them.

1. http://www.natorp.com/GardenRecipe.htm

Has three pages of container recipes as pics. No size of containers given and the pics don't seem to be of fully grown containers so you get an idea of what they would look like in the earlier stages.

2. http://www.plantbynumber.com/combos.htm

Has 22 designs named after famous artist's. Does tell you the size and shape of all the containers. The Raphael design has a couple mistakes in it though. It says it contains "Periwinkle Blue Impatiens"...but it has to mean "Lobelia". Also the pink impatiens pictured in the pot is one of the double or rosebud types and not the Apple Blossom Pink Impatiens it shows in the list of plants. But great designs for all shapes/sizes containers especially if you are looking for something different.

3. http://www.provenwinners.com/main.cfm

Tons of super containers divided up by spring, summer, and fall and links to info sheets on every plant used. But there is no info on the size pot or on the lighting, which you could figure out by checking the info on each plant. There is a "featured combination" link on the main page and a "combinations" menu at the top of the page.

I had some other links last year that I have to go back now and find. Will post as soon as I do, cause everyone is always looking for new inspiration. :) We should all draw up diagrams for ones we have done and post them in here even if we don't have pics of them.

Anyone got any other links they like?

More sites to keep you busy....

    1. www.fernlea.com (This was the one I found last year)

Has lots of ideas...some with diagrams and/or plant info, some without. I almost missed some of the designs before I realized there was a little "next" button on one section and the garden design section also had about 12 pages of container designs. The "plant recipes" page gives you a lot of pics & diagrams but doesn't tell the size of the pots I don't think. Just look all around... lots of info.

    2. www.greatscapesnursery.com

About 12 design ideas on here, but just tells you the plants used...no quantity or diagrams.

    3. http://www.pallensmith.com/gardenhome/containers.php

Lots of good ideas and info on this site. I am getting his book on container garden designs (I think it has 60 designs in it). Then I want that ladies book with 101 designs...and then I want... :) I am addicted to design books.

    4. http://www.thenurseryatmountsi.com/containers.htm

Shows 10 containers...some list the plants used, others don't. But will give you some ideas anyways.

I would like to add that some of the sites I have listed should be more responsible in putting up correct diagrams, especially when they stress their designs are easy for beginners to create masterpieces. For example... on the Proven Winners site in the Spring diagrams:

    1. Blue Heaven is shown as a large cement window box type planter - then they show the diagram as a large round circle.

    2. Some Kinda Wonderful design lists using 3 Heucheras and 2 New Guinea Impatiens - doesn't say the size container but it is sitting on two bricks...so it can only be a 6-8" pot - rather small for three large perennials and two hefty annuals.

Anyways... we should all remember to give correct and complete information. People don't stop and think how much these inaccuracies confuse and scare beginners.

okay... off my soapbox now... ;)

    Great sites! Here's another -

    Container Garden Image Gallery

This one doesn't give pot size either, sometimes gives the number of plants. But like all of them, it does provide good ideas.

These are awesome! Will keep me busy for awhile!! Thanks for posting them :)

PVick, thanks for the link! I know I will be spending the day saving more pics of containers (if my grandchildren allow it!)

Enjoy, Nur Misur! Those sites kept me busy all day for over a week. :)

    NOTE:
The Fernlea.com listed above is a little confusing...it's not always apparent where you will find a page or designs.
At the bottom of the home page are some icons...Awesome Accents, etc...and that one at least links you to a page of planter recipes. Maybe all the bottoms icons do...haven't had time to check, so just click on everything and check every menu. But I do know the link below takes you to a page of recipes.

    Hi,

I was just doing a search looking for combination ideas for containers, since I am really late at putting my containers together and need to get on the ball..lol. I like these type of sites that give ideas for combinations and I really appreciated you putting the links in their own thread. Thanks DaisyLover... :-)

Hello everyone. I was just surfing and notice this thread on containers. Well I grow everything in 2 & 3 liters recycled soda bottles. 12' skyscraper sunflowers, I have a 100 sweetcorn in a 36"x6' space. The formula is that the toxic senativtivty of the three main root tissues is directly proportional to their reproduction rate and inversly proportional to degree of differeniation. It means once you got the roots figured out what's above ground is easy. Hey I got pictures. My sweet corn averages 3 ears per stalk. I'm growing full size brandywine, yellow pear and romas. Better yet it uses 1/5 of the water. The redesigned bottles even recycle the water.
