You can probably thin them by cutting off all foliage. Not sure this will work with carrots? It works with just about everything else.

Yeah they are a bit of a pain to thin, but I found that snipping them off with a small sharp scissors works best. Trying to pull them out one by one is tedious.

Thinning carrots is kind of a pain, but you won't get nice carrots if you don't take the time to thin. Use small, sharp scissors or shears to snip growth at the soil level every 1.5" or so. This will ensure your carrots are spaced evenly and grow properly. You may need to come back a few weeks later and look for stragglers that germinated late. I had several that I missed and that caused me to have less full-size carrots than I was expecting and that was my fault. :) I'll mirror ed's reply above and say that pulling them out one by one is far too tedious and you also risk damaging roots that have since become entwined.
