The plant hasn't gone dormant yet, but it must not be touched by frost. There's still plenty of summer left so there's no hurry to bring it in.
At that time,
put in basement in coolnessÂ..itÂll go into dormancy then. Any leaves formed there wont amount to a hill of beans. Water about once a month.

Bring to sunny window in early spring, out into the garden later on but not given direct hot sun.
Loss of leaves will no doubt happen due to low light...but don't feed since it is not growing. Only feed a plant when in growth stage. At that time, a 20/20/20 can be used.

When frost threatens, bring elephant ears indoors if you want to winter them as a house plant.
For best results provide a southern exposure and don't let the soil dry out. As long as the plant continues to produce new leaves, apply a diluted liquid fertilizer (half strength).

Your main difficulty with indoor culture will be supplying Colocasia with enough humidity. In the spring be sure to harden it off by gradually exposing it to outside conditions before putting it on the patio or planting it in the ground after your last frost.

I have had bulbs for 4 years of elephant ears. I live in Iowa. I just put the whole pot (I should say my son does...hehe) in the basement. I water maybe every two weeks. In the spring, I see new growth. I water a bit more. Then I put it outside after danger of frost.

Here is this years picture. They do not get as tall as they used to, but still put on a show.
