No problem. You really don't even need to clean it, unless you feel the RB succumbed to a disease. If you're sure 'the cat did it', there's not much to be concerned about, though it IS normally a good practice to disinfect containers that plants have died in.

Use a 10% household bleach solution & a light rinse after. Then let it air dry in the sun & you're ready to go.

Hi Vanessa,

I do not know if your cat is territorial. If so be sure to use that bleach solution recommended by Al to remove the scent your cat left behind. If not the cat '''might''' return to the scene of the 'crime' and kill another plant for you. The urine and or spray from the cat might be in the wood fibers and the cat can still smell them. Not sure if this is true of all cats but some of the feral cats around here have caused problems for some container gardeners.

I can suggest a disinfectant that should end any "territorial" return by the cat... a product called Odoban. It's available at Sam's Club in my area, but if you check out their website, you may find it locally.

I've used this product for the past 20 years, mainly in the kennel business, but I also use it as my main household and garden cleaner.

It's got a nice fresh scent, kills literally everything, and stops pets from revisiting their unwanted "potty places". It's better than bleach... does more than bleach... and doesn't fade or ruin colors in fabrics or any other products it's used on. It can be diluted, and goes a long way.

I'm not selling Odoban... it's just a great product I've used for years... and I'm very surprised it's not more widely known/used.

Here is a link that might be useful: Odoban
