root maggots

I just discovered a row of turnips 'taken out' by root maggots. What are my options at this point? I guess I should take out the turnips, bag and dispose them, but should I do anything to the soil before putting in the next crop?

As far as I can tell, my beets, 2 rows over, are still OK. What should I do to try to save them?

I know Crockett's recommendation is to water the ground with Diazinon. I actually have some, but would prefer not to resort to such drastic measures. On the other hand, if it's a choice between that and losing all my row crops, maybe such a drastic step is warranted.

Any help would be appreciated.
